CHRK-FM is a Canadian radio station which will broadcast from Sydney, Nova Scotia on the FM dial at 101.9 mHz. The station is one of several new radio stations approved in 2007 for Atlantic Provinces.
The station began a required three week Industry Canada testing period on May 15, 2008 and offically launched Tuesday May 27th at 8 am with the song 4 Minutes by Madonna and Justin Timberlake. It is branded as "The Giant - 101.9, Cape Breton's Hit Music Station". The music format is adult contemporary hit radio (CHR).
The on-air line up includes the Big Breakfast with Sydney natives Rob MacNamara, Tasha Lee and former popular TV host Scott Boyd. Daryl Stevens, Matt Macleod and the stations engineer and former broadcaster Rob Brown round out the on-air line up.
The station is owned by Dartmouth-based company Newcap Broadcasting, a company that owns several other radio stations across Canada.
CHRK was formerly a call sign for CKRV 97.5 FM in Kamloops, British Columbia from 1984 to 1993 and short terrm callsign of radio station CKIS Calgary, Alberta between 1999 - 2002.
