Chopper bicycle

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A chopper bicycle is a bicycle that is designed to get attention and provide a smooth comfortable ride. While the term "chopper" is generally used to describe a motorcycle or bicycle that has had some of it's original parts replaced with custom parts, today's definition has grown to include custom motorcycles and bicycles that are low to the ground, usually with extended forks creating a long front end.

People have been building chopper bicycles for as long as there have been chopper motorcycles, however, today people can have a unique chopper bicycle built for them by a custom chopper bicycle designers such as Marty Eden and Doc Chopper. Members of modern day chopper bicycle clubs like the Freakbike Militia and SCUL, exchange information about their bikes and current events on associated websites, such as chopperbicycle.net. and the Chopper News Network.

The 'Chopper' was also a name given to a particular bicycle available in the United Kingdom in the late 1970s and early 1980s, which was recognisable through its mismatched wheel sizes (the rear was twenty inches wide while the front was sixteen inches) along with long motorcycle chopper-type handlebars. It had a 3-speed gear positioned on the frame between the seat and the handlebars, and was re-released in the 90s at a price of around £200.
