Chloroauric acid is a inorganic compound with the formula HAuCl4. It is commonly used as a source of gold (Au) in chemical experiments. Chloroauric acid is obtained by dissolving gold in aqua regia, such as when stripping gold off electronic components. The same name is applied to both the anhydrous and trihydrated forms. The species features the square planar AuCl4- ion and can also be generated by dissolving gold(III) chloride in hydrochloric acid.
