Chineseradio contributed to the Hollis Frampton wikipedia biography, adding color and detail to the poorly written piece he found. There was a basic skeleton which seemed written in another language, so CR tried to massage it into something useful. CR is a student of Hollis Frampton and experimental cinema since 1984. Chineseradio has devoted several film projects to the expansion of ideas found in Frampton's work and is a collector of Frampton materials. Frampton is a wonderful example of an artist-intellectual who has been overlooked by much of commercial and academic culture since his too-early death, and now, as the internet gains currency as an arena of true interaction, a million know-it-alls will want to re-write this biography for their 14th graduate thesis and earn Cooper Union brownie points. Pardon the sarcasm, allowed on wikipedia userspage? Someone/everyone declares themself the rightful author and dutifully adds references every third word (clutter? I don't understand the notion of reference annotating sentences you didn't compose, it's like taking apart a skeleton and fitting toilet paper between every vertebra). I see that wikipedia is a game of writing history collectively and admire it as such. We have much to learn from each other. It will be interesting to see how this bio morphs over the next years, how collectively that is achieved or conversely: if the biography can be claimed and re-written by one player. The reference mess seems like one type of chess move to claim existing language. Fascinating that text can be real estate. What's next? Can't notes and references remain at the page end? Either edit and re-write sentences so they tell the story better or leave the thing alone. I think Frampton would have appreciated Addenda.
