[edit] "Floating garden"?

mmh.. there is a common misconception here... Chinampas were intended to be artifical islands, but sometimes currents erode the base and they became "floating garden"...

There were to types of chinampas.. Some were dedicated to agriculture, and others were dedicated for living, the material for the last inlcude heavier materials, like rock, and debris form other contruction . Tenochtitlan really was a giant chinampa and continuosly grew on extention by this system. Nanahuatzin 22:46, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

You're right, Nanahuatzin, although I think their description here as "floating gardens" is meant to be more evocative than literal- they 'appeared as if they were floating'. The article does go on to say they were artificial islands, but I agree that some rewrite is in order to make it more clear.--cjllw | TALK 07:32, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
