This article needs some reference to where the term originated (well, any references at all would be a start) - its not very encyclopaedic Justinc 21:20, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

"To quote Stephen Johnson in his book on digital photography" -- specific reference/citation would be nice

"The idea that only "wannabe" photographers need to look at the LCD and check the exposure and/or image is ridiculous..." -- is this a personal opinion??

Wasn't mine originally, but I've reworded the sentence. It could still be personal opinion though! ;) -cp 06:04, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

when a photographer’s sounds and actions of reviewing frames on-scene appear similar to the actions of an excited monkey. (Oooh! Oooh! Aaah!) - again a personal opinion and not very encyclopaedic

[edit] Still quoting

I interpret "The idea that only "wannabe" photographers need to look at the LCD and check the exposure and/or image is ridiculous..." as being the opinion of Stephen Johnson as he expressed it in his forementioned book and therefore not to be edited. I will not, however, change anything since I'm a bit of a novice in here. Cdream (talk) 16:33, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] No matter how good

I've just removed this sentence from the article:

No matter how good a photographer you are, it is impossible to understand what you are doing well enough to not benefit from the information contained in the histogram.

What a load of digital photography revisionism. People have been taking well-exposed photos for probably over a century before digital cameras came along with their histograms. Histograms aren't always so useful for correct exposure anyway[1]. --Imroy (talk) 12:19, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Written more and cleaned up

Some of the text is just plain ridiculous.

Do we really need this:

"Having several digital photographers together will result in group chimping either during or after the event they are shooting. This is similar to actual chimpanzee grooming, which is a social activity."

I've removed that sentence. It seems to be more like the author's attempt at humour than anything remotely encyclopaedic.

Elsewhere, I've added a tentative citation to the fact that experienced photographers seem to describe wannabe photographers ass chimping - and changed the wording in the process. I've edited other parts to improve the tone of the article.

It's very hard to find mentions of the term in places other than forums - which aren't a credible source. This is probably because the term hasn't really caught on outside the photography world, like other popular phrases have (e.g. LOL). If anyone has any credible sources please add them. - redandwhite90 (talk) 16:21, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
