Hello, I have read several books regarding history of baseball, and several ones regarding baseball during the dead ball era. I don't know why it is stated that he was a "surprisingly good hitter but was overlooked because he was a catcher"?. Why was it surprising that he was a good hitter? and then, why is it stated that he was overlooked because he was a catcher? He had issues with other players because he was a native american, as he himself says so in "The Glory of Their Times", but I have read that he was considered a good catcher, nobody overlooked his skills.
