Chief Looking Glass had a brilliant military mind which he used to emply military strategies on the battle field. He sharpened these skills growing up as a young and valient Nez Perce warrior. He was a very wise leader and lead the Nez Perce in some incredible victories. In the year 1874, he made an alliance with another Indian tribal group called the Crow Nation. They was another Indian group who scattered across the plains to hunt down buffalo. In July of that same year, Chief Looking Glass and with the help of the Crows, defeated the Sioux on the Battle of Prior Creek, Montana. The Crow Nation was debt towards the Nez Perce which helped them win the war. The Crows extended them an offer of help if they ever needed it when a situation like that if it occurs again. The Nez Perce were greatly honored by their new allies and thus an event did occur. The Nez Perce had to move out of their land because the United States wanted to use their land for cattle grazing. Once they were heading towards the reservation, four white people were killed and that started a series of clashes between the United States Army. Chief Looking Glass took his people towards north traveling from Idaho to Montana again. When the Nez Perce asked the Crows for helped in fighting the U.S. Army, they refused to help them in fighting. Once they got passed Yellow Stone Park, they were headed off to Cananda. On the Battle of Bear Paw, which was the final engagement between the U.S. Army and the Nez Perce, there was alot of casualties. This is when Chief Joseph because both of his chiefs were already dead and they had a huge casualty. In those wars, he clashed with the likes of General Oliver Otis Howard,Colonel John Gibbon,General Nelson A. Miles and Colonel Samuel D. Sturgis were involved as well. Chief Looking Glass also had the help of Chief Joseph and Chief Ollicot. Chief Looking was killed after the battle while going to Canada by a Cheyenne scout.
