I believe that she is NOT related to legendary jazz trumpeter John Coltrane. This should be mentioned if someone can verify it.

  • She is not the daughter of John Coltrane, and the content of the article as it stands makes this clear. Charles D. Laughlin 14:59, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Philosophical Question

Here's an important question that no-one will answer well, for decades (if not centuries) to come, least of all on this obscure Wikipedia page: What criteria are deemed important, on what grounds, in summarizing a person's life? For example, the current article on Chi Coltrane defines her professionally, and notes only in passing that she spent some years in Europe. Well, why did she? Was it personal -- a boyfriend? Are the romantic/sexual aspects of a performer not important? Or, was it cultural? In which case, do the reasons for her decision to leave North America not merit mention? If the criteria are simply to state "what is e.g., Chi Coltrane most widely known for?", then what is the purpose of an encyclopedia if she is already widely known for it?
