Chita State University is an institution of higher learning in Chita, Russia, Siberia.
founded in 1966 as the Technology Department of the Irkutsk Technical Institute. It remained under this name till 1972 when the Technology Department was transformed into the Chita Branch of Irkutsk Technical Institute. Two years later in 1974 the existing institution was folded into the newly founded Chita Polytechnic Institute. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union Chita Polytechnical Institute changed names yet again in 1995 when it was granted the status of Chita State Technical University. After a number of departments were reorganized as schools in 1998, and 2000 the focus of the university shifted drasticly from a technical school to a more traditional university. This shift was completed in 2003 when the University was granted the status of classical university and given the name of Chita State University.
