- Chiron is the most significant of the "centaur" asteroids. Known as "the wounded healer", it has associations to traumas and wounds or inadequacies which are incurable, but may be worked with, on their own terms, and transformed into one's greatest strengths. Some astrologers believe it is or will become the ruler of the sign Virgo.[1]

- John Updike's novel The Centaur is an expansion and interpretation of the story of Chiron, set in the context of 20th century small-town America. Chiron’s name, and the underlying mythology, serves to inform many of the root words connected with the ancient healing arts, e.g. cheiromancy, or the art of divining the will of the gods through the interpretation of the patterns of the hands.
- The 1982 science fiction novel Voyage from Yesteryear by James P. Hogan features a planet named Chiron.
- In the computer game Titan Quest, Chiron gives an optional quest to the player to retrieve his bow for him.
- In Robotech, the American adaptation of the 1982 Japanese animated hit The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Khyron is the name of one of the Zentraedi commanders. He becomes the central villain in the latter half of the series and ultimately commits a suicide mission, crashing his ship into the SDF-1 Macross (the character is named Kamjin in the original Japanese version).
- Chiron is mentioned in David Gemmell's book 'Dark Prince' which is loosely based on the story of Alexander the Great. Chiron tutors the young Alexander, and is said in the book to split into a man and a horse during night time, and reform into a centaur during the day.
