Coordinates: 23°12′N 82°21′E / 23.2, 82.35 Chirmiri is a city and a municipality in the Koriya district of the state of Chhattisgarh, India. In English it is also spelt as 'Chirimiri'.

Mother Nature has been very kind to Chirmiri and has ornamented it with picturesque hills, valleys, forests etc. As most of the places are hilley, human population is clustered but scattered on different hills. While travelling within the city from one hill to other, one can get the feeling of travelling across towns. This feeling comes because of forests falling in between.

It is well-known for its coal mines; mining began here in 1950. Chirmiri has broad gauge railway link for long. This was mainly laid to transport coal from the region but it also benefitted locals by way of passenger transport, though not many passenger carrying trains connect Chirmiri.

How to Reach by Rail/Road: Although not by any express train, Chirmiri is linked directly by train from Bilaspur, a big rail hub of India. Travel time is around 8-10 hours. By road it takes around 6-7 hours. Both journeys, if taken during day time can be enjoyed by sight seeing through the window of Train/Vehicle. Bilaspur is a big city of Chhattisgarh and hosts the High Court of Chhattisgarh, South Eastern Central zone of Indian Railways and Headquarters of South Eastern Coalfields Ltd. It is well connected by rail from all parts of India.

If coming from North India, nearest railway junction is Anuppur on the main line connecting Bilaspur to Delhi. Anuuppur is also well-connected from Jabalpur. From Anuppur, Chirmiri is 3-4 hours away.

The most famous place to visit is "Lord Jagnnath Temple"; made by the workers brought from Puri, it looks almost like the Jagannath Temple (Puri) at Puri.
