Chip Franklin is a morning drive talk show host on KOGO in San Diego, California. He is a a former host of a talk show on WBAL AM 1090 in Baltimore, Maryland. In San Diego and Baltimore, Washington DC, Franklin is also known as a comedian and frequents clubs in the markets.
He is a self-described libertarian. Franklin often uses humor to voice his opinion on government policies. He has won the National Edward R. Murrow award and two regional Murrows for his satiric essays on politics. He has also won five Achievement in Radio BEST TALK SHOW HOST awards. Talkers Magazine has listed Chip as one of the top 100 talk show hosts in the country for five straight years, most recently at #97 in the 2008 edition of the Heavy 100.[1] Chip started at San Diego's KOGO on September 4. He is on the air from 5 to 9 a.m. Since his initial broadcast Chip has been through: earthquake, the La Jolla landslide in October 2007, and the October Firestorm. He brought his producer Don Ayres to San Diego.
Franklin has appeared numerous times on The O'Reilly Factor, CNN, Paula Zahn, Fox and Friends, The Situation Room, and MSNBC. His series, CURB YOUR INTELLIGENCE, random on-the-street interviews generated national buzz and a feature on CNN in early 2007 when he asked people if they still blamed Barack Obama for 9/11. He has continued with this segment in San Diego, renaming it Arrested Intelligence..
Another show featuring the Commissioner of the Baltimore Police Department was subpoenaed by a federal grand jury. Chip Franklin was heard from 9:00 AM until noon, weekdays on Baltimore’s 50,000 watt WBAL 1090 AM.
A veteran stand-up comic, Chip has headlined thousands of shows as a stand-up, speaker, and featured guest. He has over a dozen appearances on national television, including Evening at The Improv, Comic Strip Live, VH-1 Standup Spotlight, MTV, Comedy Central, The CBS Morning Show, and The A-List on A&E. He has also written for The Tonight Show. Franklin also writes and directs short films and has won numerous awards from festivals in the U.S
Born in Alexandria, VA, Chip is the youngest of five children. His father was a Washington DC police officer and his mother assistant to the U.S. Attorney's office. Chip is married and has two sons.
