- 27 August 1896 :Russia and China sign contract for building Chinese Eastern Railroad.
- 17 December 1896 :Chinese Eastern Railroad Society (Russian: Obshchestvo Kitayskoy Vostochnoy Zheleznoy Dorogi) established in St. Petersburg, later moved to Vladivostok.
- Jul 1897 :Construction begun on Chinese Eastern railroad, 1,481 km(Tarskaya - Hilar - Harbin - Nikolsk-Ussuriski).
- 16 May 1898 :Harbin established.
- Aug 1898 :Defense for Chinese Eastern Railroad (CER) across Manchuria assumed by Russia; under Priamur governor.
- 3 November 1901 :Traffic opened, regular passenger traffic begun from St. Petersburg to Vladivostok 14 July 1903.
- 1 July 1903 :Chinese Eastern Railroad opened and given under authority of CER Administration (Russian: Upravleniye KVZhD)
- 12 August 1903 - 1 July 1905 :Subordinated to Viceroyalty of the Far East (see Lüshunkou).
- 5 September 1905 :Southern spur (Changchun to Port Arthur) of CER ceded to Japan.
- 1 August 1906 :Ussurian line was granted on long-term lease for 25 years(to 1 Jan 1931) to Russian CER.
- Nov 1917 - 20 September 1924 :Russian zone administered by "White" Russian forces during the Russian civil war.
- 1 July 1920 :Ussurian line separated from CER.
- 18 November 1922 :Under administration of Soviet Union, part of Far Eastern Region.
- 1929 - 1932 :De facto under Chinese sovereignty.
- 9 February 1933 :Nationalized by Manchukuo government
- 23 March 1935 :Southern spur transferred to Manchukuo by Japan.and Northern spur of CER sold to Manchukuo by U.S.S.R.
- 1 September 1935 :Soviets recognize Manchukuo as owner of CER.
- 18 August 1945 :Harbin liberated by Soviet troops.
- 18 August 1945 - 14 February 1950:Joint Soviet-Chinese administration of the Chinese Eastern Railroad.
