China Medical Technologies (also known as China Meditech) is one of the first medical device company based in China that was listed overseas. The company develops, manufactures and markets advanced in-vitro diagnostic (IVD) products using Enhanced Chemiluminescence (ECLIA) technology and Fluorescent in situ Hybridization technology, to detect and monitor various diseases and disorders, and innovative therapeutic products using High intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) for the treatment of solid cancers and benign tumors.

The company has its headquarters based in Beijing, China and is listed in NASDAQ under the trading code: CMED.

The company obtained approval from the Chinese State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) for the sale of its non invasive HIFU system in the year 1999. Currently, several government hospitals in China such as People’s Hospital of Peking University, Shanghai Zhongshan Hospital and the People’s Hospital of Jiangsu Province are using their system for the treatment of liver, breast, and kidney tumours.

The HIFU system developed by China Meditech will also be distributed in the European Union and Russia by EDAP TMS S.A. (NASDAQ:EDAP) as of 2007.
