Chimakurthi is a town in Prakasam District, Andhra Pradesh, India. This place is famous for a special type of black granite which is not found anywhere else in the world. This granite is exported to all corners of the globe. Granite is the hardest building stone, and black granite is often used in decorative applications and luxury floorings. But due to the mining in the region the town has become a center of disease like malaria, typhoid and dengue. The town is also hub for HIV AIDS which was transmitted from the workers migrated from Tamil Nadu. Also experts say that an earthquake can hit the region anytime due to deep mining.[citation needed] The pollution in the area is so high that people are suffering from psoriasis.
