The Chilean Tinamou Nothoprocta perdicaria is a type of Tinamou commonly found in high altitude shrubland in subtropical and tropical regions from 400 to 2,000 m altitude. This species is native to Chile and has been introduced to Easter Island. The species has an estimated global extent of occurrence of 120,000 km².

[edit] Subspecies
The Chilean Tinamou has two subspecies as follows:
- Nominate race (Nothoprocta perdicaria perdicaria) occurs in north and central Chile
- Nothoprocta perdicaria sanborni occurs in southern Chile
[edit] Characteristics
The Chilean Tinamou is approximately 30 cm in length. Its upperparts greyish brown to olive, barred darker and streaked paler, throat white, breast greyish and belly buff. Its bill is brown, legs pale yellowish to brownish.
[edit] Breeding
The females lay 10-12 glossy eggs in a scrape. The eggs are covered with feathers when left unattended. Incubation is around c. 21 days. The chicks are buff with dark stripes, and run soon after hatching and fly when half-grown.
