ChileHardware

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

ChileHardware is one of the largest Spanish written hardware review sites. It was founded by Christian Montero (Sir Max), Felipe Figueroa (Amenadiel) and Juan Pablo Adaro (Zuljin), in January 2004 as a way to help and show people new technologies. Since then it has become perhaps the largest Spanish written, South America based computer sites, covering mayor IT tradeshows, daily news, first hand hardware reviews and candent columns.

In 2006 the site had a big restructuration, after which Montero and Adaro decided to leave the project to focus on their own careers. Figueroa was left in charge, and long time reviewer Juan Francisco Diez, became his right hand. Later that year, ChileHardware launched a gadget spinoff, called TecnoSquad, based on the growing success of consumer electronics and other weblogs like Engadget and Gizmodo. The spinoff formula was repeated during 2007, giving birth to BotonTurbo, a videogaming/console oriented weblog.

From those days, ChileHardware has won the respect of industry leaders, specialized media and hardware manufacturers. From being a small hobby site, it became one of the most respected hardware websites in the internet and receives thousands of readers everyday from all over the world.

[edit] Content

ChileHardware now is heavily focused in rumors and hardware reviews, with sources in Asia and the United States, they have made public classified information before any other site, like ATi's RD790 chipset. Following a transforming editorial line, they have turn from being a re-printer to develop and follow original stories, by attending IDF, Computex and CES among many other international IT tradeshows.

[edit] Forums

CHW's essence lives in the discussion forums, which are ran by a few elected moderators. Their topics are diverse, running from technological topics to off-topics, like hobbies and Chilean breaking news. The atmosphere is light, and it's mostly controlled by users self moderation, with the goal of avoiding restrictions, user banning or heavy censor. And lots of sconfs and zippys.
