Children of the Drone

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Children of the Drone are an Exeter, UK-based improvisational drone music collective formed in 2001. Originally formed by Simon Egan, Keith Hunter and Matthew Watkins, the collective now consists of about twenty players, with a core group of about a dozen.

The collective attempts to operate in a non-hierarchical way, with an emphasis on inclusivity, openness, mutual respect and listening. Although primarily acoustic, some electric instruments have been gradually integrated over the years. The group does occasionally perform locally, but the majority of its activity consists of private sessions. These are invariably recorded, with excerpts uploaded to the Internet Archive open source audio collection.

In late 2004, Children of the Drone initiated an open-ended collaboration with a like-minded group of improvisational musicians based in Bristol.
