Children for Children (CFC) is a New York based not-for-profit that promotes hands-on youth volunteering and giving programs which teach and instill the value of community involvement and civic engagement in children from all backgrounds, beginning at a young age. The organization was created through the inspiration of Silda Wall Spitzer and her husband, former Governor of New York Eliot Spitzer[1]. Mrs. Wall is the founding chair (emeritus) of Children for Children.
[edit] History
Children for Children (CFC) was founded in 1996 by parents concerned that many New York City children were growing up without meaningful, accessible opportunities to become engaged in their greater community from an early age, despite the powerful individual and societal benefits afforded by youth service.
Children for Children's service learning and giving initiatives reached more than 52,000 young people from diverse backgrounds in 2007.[citation needed] CFC was named one of Charity Navigator's Top Ten Charities worth watching in 2007 and was awarded four stars, its highest rating, for the second year in a row[citation needed]. In March 2008, Sandra Miniutti of Charity Navigator stated that Children for Children would likely struggle financially for several months [2] due to the Eliot Spitzer prostitution scandal.
