Chick Lathers

Charles Ten Eyck "Chick" Lathers (October 22, 1888 - July 26, 1976) was a Major League Baseball infielder who played two seasons with the Detroit Tigers in 1910 and 1911. Born in Dearborn, Michigan, Chick Lathers attended the University of Michigan and played for the Michigan Wolverines baseball team in 1909. He then signed with the Detroit Tigers and played in a total of 70 games with the Detroit Tigers, including games at all four infield positions (22 games at 3rd base, 16 games at 2nd base, and 8 games at shortstop. He had a career batting average of .228 with a .305 on base percentage. He was neither a good hitter nor a good fielder. His lifetime fielding percentage of .906 is 32 points lower than the league average during his years of play, and his Range factor of 2.94 was 1.66 points lower than the league average of 4.59.
Chick Lathers served in the military during World War I.
He operated a large dairy farm on Burt Lake, east of Brutus Michigan, from 1934 to 1962. After selling his farm, he spent his winters in Florida. Lathers died in 1971 at age 82 at Little Traverse Hospital in Petoskey, Michigan. He is buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Petoskey.
