Chichester (pronounced /ˈtʃaɪtʃɛstə/) is an area of South Shields in the administrative area of Tyne and Wear, North East England. The Tyne and Wear Metro links the area with nearby Newcastle, Sunderland and North Tyneside.
Chichester Metro station was one of the original interchange stations[citation needed] which meant passengers could hop straight on the bus after riding the Metro. The platforms themselves are below street surface however the ticket hall is at ground level. The ticket hall consists of 3 ticket machines and a Newsagent. No bikes are permitted on the Metro excluding fold-away bikes. Chichester has four Bike Lockers.[1] These are rarely used[citation needed] and regularly vandalised[citation needed]. Platform 1 is the Eastbound platform with trains travelling directly to South Shields station in the town centre. Platform 2 is the Westbound platform with trains for St. James via The Coast. Platform 2 is the busiest with most passengers wishing to travel to Monument, the busiest station on the network.
Unlike the city of Chichester, the 'i' is pronounced as 'eye' (/aɪ/)
