Chicago Weekly

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Chicago Weekly is a student-written alternative weekly at the University of Chicago that promotes arts and culture on the South Side of Chicago through coverage and criticism. The paper also follows South Side news stories that are ignored by mainstream media. The paper is published every Thursday during the academic year, and includes feature-length narrative journalism, arts criticism, essays, and a weekly calendar of cultural events.

In addition, Chicago Weekly enjoys a mentoring relationship with the Chicago alt-weekly New City, founded and run by University of Chicago alumni Brian and Jan Hieggelke. The Weekly used to be called the Chicago Weekly News until insolvency forced that publication to reorganize. Chicago Weekly News editors, with the help of University of Chicago officials, brokered a deal in which New City would publish the newly christened Chicago Weekly. By the terms of the deal—still in effect—a copy of New City would come inserted in the middle of each issue of the student alt-weekly. [1][2]

The office of Chicago Weekly is located in the basement of the University of Chicago's Reynolds Club.
