The Chicago Red Stars are a professional soccer club to be based in Bridgeview, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, that will begin play in Women's Professional Soccer in 2009. The Chief Executive Officer is Peter Wilt, a long-time promoter of soccer in Chicago and a former executive with the Chicago Fire of Major League Soccer. Marcia McDermott, a former head coach of the Northwestern University women's soccer team, will be the Red Stars' general manager.

On May 29, 2008, the team announced Chicago Red Stars as the team's name. Red Stars, named after the four red stars on Chicago's municipal flag, won the "Name the Team" fan ballot over Chicago Wind and Chicago 1871 with 5,080 votes. The team's logo and colors were unveiled on June 3 at the entrance of Toyota Park, where the Red Stars will play. The team's official colors are sky blue, navy blue, red, and white. The logo includes a stylized version of the Chicago flag.

The Red Stars are a partner of the 16,000-member Illinois Women's Soccer League.
