Chicago Blizzard of 1979

The Chicago Blizzard of 1979 was a major blizzard that affected northern Illinois and northwest Indiana, U.S. on January 13-January 14, 1979. 16.5 inches (41.9 cm) of snow fell on January 13th alone, setting a new record for snow in one calendar day. By the end of the 14th, 18.8 inches (47.8 cm) of snow had fallen.[1]
