From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Chicago Avenue Line is a proposed streetcar corridor in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The line would run along Chicago Avenue from 38th Street South in South Minneapolis to Nicollet Mall in Downtown Minneapolis via 9th and 10th streets. The line would then run along Nicollet Mall to 5th Street. It would terminate at Nicollet Mall Station on the Hiawatha Line.
The line would be 3 miles long. The cost of track for the line would be approximately $80,000,000. The total cost would also include a maintenance facility and streetcars, so that cost would be significantly higher than $80,000,000. It would be closer to $110,000,000
Other proposed streetcar lines that the Chicago Avenue Line would intersect:
Midtown Greenway Line (South Minneapolis)
Nicollet Mall Line (Downtown)
Hiawatha Light Rail Line (Northern Terminus)
Ridership estimates for this line are approximately 11,000 to 13,000 riders on weekdays.
