The People's Republic of China has competed at the Summer Olympics since 1984. It does so under the name of China. Athletes from Mainland China also competed in the 1936-1948 Olympic Games, representing the Republic of China.

The Republic of China, now based in Taiwan, now competes at the Olympics as Chinese Taipei. Hong Kong also sends a separate team to the Olympics.
