[edit] Recent Changes

On Monday, August 29th, 2006 at 8:45 am CHIQ - Q-94 announced that after 25 years that it would no longer exist and that a new station would be created within a seven day time span based on comments provided by listeners.[1] Prior to the announcement, the regular morning staff had not shown up for work (midday host Troy Scott covered) leaving many to speculate that they knew ahead of time of the change and did not want to announce their own demise. A later report debunked that theory for the interim.[2] The station then went on for two weeks allowing listiners to call in and choose how they wanted the new 94.3FM to be like. When the two weeks were over Beau, Tom, Dez, Troy and Dug all returned.

On September 4th, 2007 Andrew Long sent out the following release: " I am ecstatic to introduce to you the new morning show on Q94FM.

"Cory Kimm & Natalee Taylor"

Originally from Edmonton, Cory makes the move from his post at 104.5 CHUM FM in Toronto where he was the host of the national evening show "The Sound Lounge" which airs on CHUM stations across the country.

Joining Cory will be Natalee Taylor. Raised in British Columbia, Natalee comes to us from our sister station 91.7 The Bounce in Edmonton where she has been hosting the afternoon drive show." [3]

Later, Troy Scott's (left Q-94 in april 07 to take on the Morning Show on CHNK-FM) empty time slot was filled by Andrea Collins as the midday announcer and Dug Joy has been temporarily replaced by the station's Program Director Andrew "Science" Long as the afternoon announcer. The spot was then filled by Peter Kash, who came from Toronto.

Natalee Taylor then left Q94 for unknown reasons. After passing months Fiona Odlum took Natalee's place, from her past position at CHUM Winnipeg as the "Eye in the Sky" traffic reporter.

[edit] Past Promotional Tools

Common throughout Q-94's history is the use of coffee mugs. These were distributed to a selected "Office of the Day". The contest was open to office workers by simply sending in a fax requesting to be selected. The morning show dj's of Beau, Tom and Dez would then announce which office they would visit and present the mugs too along with other prizes.

"Money Magnets" were used in the 1990' and discontinued at around the turn of the century in favour of a contest called "Beat the Bank". The Money Magnet contest consisted of business card size magnets that were distributed to the public for free. They were imprinted with a number. Throughout a broadcast day numbers would be called out. If the listener heard their number called they were given a half hour to call the station and claim their prize. If no call was made after the allotted time, a new number would be called.

The new Beat the Bank format was most likely implemented to save costs for producing a magnet as the new contest only requires listeners to call when there is a designated prompt played on the station and a caller is selected at random to play the game live.
