It says you wanted to adopt a user so i'm seeing if you would like to adopt me. please reply back, thank you :)Hey Joe what you know? (talk) 02:02, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

cruising

I have seen in person and also have read about in books and the sites that Aquatic Park in Berkeley and the Emeryville Crescent are major cruising areas for gay men. How can I include this without it being vandalism?

fetus in fetu

Hi chetblong. Unfortunately someone else at this shared IP is vandalising, but the changes to Fetus in fetu were not vandalism. 144.98.76.45 (talk) 13:00, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

I appreciate it. --Old Moonraker (talk) 13:02, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

AIV

Further to my recent AIV activity could I have some comments from you about the "incorrectly or insufficiently warned" user that I reported. As the user had multiple (as in over 4)warnings in the space of three days I'm wondering what the proper amount is. Is it just a case of people using the wrong templates that made it not qualify for reporting to AIV? What specifically did I do wrong so that I don't repeat the error again? Jasynnash2 (talk) 15:12, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Did he have a final warning? RC-0722 247.5/1 15:14, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
  • That is why I'm asking the question. He had no "final" warning but, at least 2 "only" warnings and 3 others. That is why it is a question of whether people were using the wrong templates and that "uw-vandalism4" MUST be used before taking to AIV? If so that is fine and I'll make sure to do that in future. Is there a template I'm not aware of that states "final" warning? I'm just trying to be useful on here and thought I was doing the right thing. If it is about using the "correct" template than I need to know that so I can adjust the way I've been fighting this battle (against vandals that is).Jasynnash2 (talk) 15:28, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Sorry I didn't get a chance to reply. User:Steve Crossin summed it up I think though. Cheers, ChetblongTalk/Sign 05:34, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Hello Chetblong. I know you're busy, but did you mean to remove the items below without responding? I've reviewed other edits by this user (after making a rollback mistake myself) and found them to be constructive edits. -- Tcncv (talk) 04:40, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Sorry .. don't understand why an honest, non bashing question would be vandalism.

RFA Thanks

Thank you for your comments on my RFA. Even though it failed with 28 supports, 42 opposes, and 15 neutrals, I am grateful for the suggestions and advice I have received and I do hope to improve as a Wikipedian. If you ever need my help in any endeavor, feel free to drop me a line. --Sharkface217 20:03, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Report questions

  1. Can you describe what the 'cabal' is? What is its history? How did it come about?
  2. I'm a newbie wanting to help out at the cabal, what do I do? How can I get involved?
  3. There is obviously a striking difference between the BRC and other cabals, but what else makes it different?
  4. How did you feel about posting an image of yourself? Did you ever feel inclined to post an image of someone that wasn't you?
  5. Why did you join the group?
  6. Apart from maybe LaraLove and Riana, are there any other leading members?
  7. I felt that the Bathrobe Cabal is a little informal, would you list that amongst the best elements of the group?
  8. What's your overall opinion on the group? Has it helped you in any way, for example?

Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2008-04-14/Cabal report :P Rudget (review) 16:30, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
  1. Well, you didn't ask me, but I'll chime in to be sure you get accurate information. I'm not the founding member. It was sort of a funny idea that was put into images and added to WP:LOC by the_undertow from a comment by Riana in Dfrg's RFA. I was recruited into it and created a page. It's expanded from there. It basically mocks the idea of cabals. We're just editors in bathrobes.
  2. If you're a n0ob to the BRC, you don't have to do anything. We don't have any real goals. We have members that I've never spoken to. If you want to help out, a cabal image would be good. We're always looking for cool things to put on the page.
  3. Uhm... I haven't looked at many other cabals. We're just about having fun and being a support system for those who care to participate past the image on the page.
  4. That would be no fun.
  5. I joined because the_undertow is hilarious, as is Dfrg. There was no reason not to.
  6. There's not really a hierarchy. We don't do anything.
  7. Pure awesomeness. There's an extended answer for this one on the RFC/Cabals page.
  8. Everlasting friendships and an amazing support system.

Various members will have various answers, but if you want details on the history, it's probably best to ask those who created it. :) LaraLove 20:30, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

I'm working on the answers, I'll paste them here in a bit. --ChetblongTalk/Sign 21:11, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

My answers

  1. Mostly LaraLove, The undertow, Jayron32, Dfrg.msc and Riana know about this part, I've heard the whole story but they would know it better than me since I joined later on.
  2. Well there isn't really anything that you need to "help out" with, we don't really have to do the same thing or work on the same project, we're mostly a humor cabal.
  3. Well for one thing all the members are in good standing with the community, which some of the members of the recent cabals that got deleted weren't. But there is also a sense of community for people who actively participate in the cabal, like on the IRC channel. I mean we might not all agree on some issues, and we don't have to, but we all get along together, and it helps ease a lot of the tension that one might find on Wikipedia. I for one have had wonderful experiences with the BRC and it has helped me with some issues, that I won't mention here, which have been on my chest for quite some time. So I can see it affecting different people different ways, but positively.
  4. I felt no worries whatsoever, I've had an image of myself on Wikipedia for awhile now so taking one of me in a bathrobe was no big deal. And posting an image that isn't me seems to be a bit dishonest don't you think?
  5. I remember seeing the BRC page and the talk page back before I was an admin, I saw quite a few users that I liked, I liked their humor as well, and said to myself "there is another reason for me to become an admin" (this was back when it was "admins only") "and when I become an admin I'm going to join".
  6. No answer for that, there isn't any "leaders" really.
  7. It's a "Bathrobe" cabal what else would you expect :). Yes I think it is a good point for the cabal.
  8. As I listed in answer 3, it has helped me deal with real life issues and Wikipedia issues. It makes it a lot easier to edit when you get to have some "hang out" time, just kick back and relax step away from some of the drama of editing an encyclopedia. To me when you know you have friends on Wikipedia, it gives you a sense of "belonging" it lets you feel at home on Wikipedia a sense of community I guess, which makes you want to stick around in some of the tougher times on Wikipedia.

Next and Previous

Is it possible on Wikipedia to have a picture with links "Previous" and "Next" underneath which the links re-fresh just the picture to the previous or next. If it is could you please tell me the code. It would be good for my userpage! Thanks, wwesockssign 05:51, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Capitol View/Stifft's Station and DYK

I know you just recently looked at the Capitol View/Stifft's Station article, but someone at the neighborhood association got back to me with additional sources which increased the article size significantly. I also changed all of the pictures and their layout. I'd really appreciate a 2nd pair of eyes, namely yours, looking it over one last time for me. I also think it may be up to B class now, but I have no experience assessing articles just yet, and it seems wrong to assess my own (Is this kosher?).

Also, I have a qualified item for DYK but as days pass, it risks becomming stale. I thought you might be able to add it to Template:Did_you_know/Next_update if you felt it appropriate. I took the picture for the article and can't help but feel a bit excited at the possibility of having it featured on the main page. You can find the entry at Template_talk:Did_you_know#Articles created/expanded on April 22, it's the one about the McDonalds sign with my picture right next to it.
