Re: I can't see my new version.

When you're uploading a newer version of a recording, the newer audio version replaces the old one as soon as the upload has successfully completed. Unfortunately, anything you write in the "Summary" section of the "Upload file" page gets ignored (it's only used the first time you upload a new recording), so when updating a pre-existing recording, you have to change the information on the recording's "Image:" page manually, so that people know which text version it's based on, among other things. I've done this for you, as an example. To see exactly what I've done, click on the "History" tab of
Image:Windows Vienna.ogg
then click "Compare selected versions". These changes need to be done every time you update your recording. I've also re-uploaded the recording with a spoken license statement appended to the end, as this is an important part of every spoken Wikipedia article (see the recording guidelines), although it would sound better in your own voice. :) Review here. -- Macropode 09:26, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

There's nothing more to be done; the "listen to this article" link in the article always (automatically) points to the latest audio version that's been uploaded. I'm not really familiar with Yahoo! Music Jukebox, but my guess is that they're still serving the older version. Download it directly from the Wikipedia page and play it with an Ogg-capable player (VLC is a good one, because it'll play Ogg Vorbis without you having to download any extra codecs) and you'll get the latest version. -- Macropode 09:35, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Nice work. Your audio editing's getting better! Review here.-- Macropode 08:01, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Engaging in dialogues

Hi there, in regards to the way you are writing your comments in the discussion on the talk page of the Criticism of Windows Vista article, I would like to point out that when you insert your response between someones else's comments, it makes the entire thing hard to follow. Like when you inserted your response between paragraphs of Warren's comment, even though it keeps the answer closer to the point where the issue was raised, someone who is following the discussion has to hunt through the pile to figure out new info (no diffs are not that helpful for large discussions). As such, it is better to respond below someone else. Even better, refer to the point that was raised before you put down your answer. Thanks, and regards. --soum (0_o) 17:10, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Okay, my mistake. You didnt do that. But the way you used indents made it seem like you were inserting your answers between others. Sorry. So, when you have to quote someone or some article, instead of using indents, I think it would be better if you just italicize and use quotation marks to demarcate that. --soum (0_o) 17:14, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
That's OK I'll do what you suggested. -- Chetblong 17:22, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for doing this, Chetblong, it really helps. -/- Warren 17:41, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Adminship nomination

You dont have to do anything when nominating self. If you are nominated by someone else, they put the time of nomination. When you are accepting, you should change to the time of acceptance, so that it is kept open for 7 days since acceptance. --soum talk 16:25, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

You are welcome. And all the best with the RfA. Most evaluators look quite some experience. You are a good editor, you are lacking in experience. Also, even in self nomination, you have to explicitly state that you are accepting, just before the questions. --soum talk 16:34, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
Your Rfs is not considered active till you explicitly state acceptance of nomination. See mine. --soum talk 16:46, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
Yeah I missed that question. But you could have followed up on that. Plus that was hardly a response to the issue I raised: that all (but maybe an isolated incident or two) are notable people whose opinions can (and it does) sway people's perception. As such, the issue becomes notable. Instead of answering how this is irrelevant, you point out that I have given only one incident in the example (its just an example, why should I reiterate everything that is in the article?) How was that a relevant response to a question raised against your suggestion? Anyways, we can continue this discussion on the talk page. For now, try to gain some experience with how things work here from the RfA. --soum talk 17:35, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
Plus there are also general issues with your contribution. You uploaded a few fair use images but all lack a fair use rationale. This things will be pointed out in RfA. Please try to rectify them. --soum talk 17:37, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
I will respond to your comment tomorrow. I will be signing out in a few minutes (My lab is going to close for the night). See you tomorrow. --soum talk 17:41, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Thank you!

Thanks for your persistent reverting of vandalism to my user page tonight. I really appreciate that. --Bonadea 19:58, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Your recent RfA

I'm sorry, but I've closed your Request for adminship prematurely. Simply put, you've only got 365 edits on Wikipedia; while edit count isn't the only determining factor, and numerous people have their own personal standards that they judge RfA candidates by, there was no chance that the RfA was going to pass.

I'm sorry about this, and hope you don't take it personally. If you continue to contribute to the project in a positive fashion, I'm confident that you could possibly run a successful RfA in the future. You may want to consider submitting yourself to Wikipedia:Editor review for feedback on where to get some good experience, and when you're ready for RfA again, there's a great Wikipedia:Admin coaching program for you to use, as well as a guide to requests for adminship.

If you have any other questions about becoming an administrator, please don't hesitate to ask me. Good luck! Evilclown93 23:15, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Your RfA

I am sorry it was closed early. Don't take it personally. Your lack of experience is what went against you.

I would have said this earlier, but didn't so that you weren't discouraged from that RfA. And due to this reason only, I did not vote there. Lack of experience is the most serious question. You have 300 odd edits in total, and a majority of them have been welcoming newcomers. While that is definitely a very noble thing to do, it does not show how good a contributor you are to the content of wikipedia. We are here primarily to build a quality repository of informative content, not to build the largest database of registered users. Also, low main space edits obscure how good an understanding you have of Wikipedia policies. About the fair use images, after I pointed that out, you rectify them with just adding a template that says it has fair use rationale, but not adding any rationale whatsoever. This lack of understanding of policies and their enforcement can be excused for a new inexperienced user, but cannot be the virtues of a administrator. Take a look at WP:FURG on how to add good rationales. As for the answer to my question, your response has been rather unsatisfactory. Of course you gonna sort it by talking, thats the only thing you can do here. In the conflict, your interpretation was against everyone else's. In this case the answer that I was looking for was that you would dig up precedents of such conflicts from other similar articles and see how it is handled in general in Wikipedia. If it is not the way other editors are handling it, show them and resolve on those lines. If they indeed are doing it that way, assume the tried and tested way is better and respect consensus till you can come up with a definitive flaw in that. Sure, a better answer would have been awesome but this was the least I was looking for. Anyways, the limited main space contributions that you have has been good. And you are a good vandal fighter. But that is not enough to judge whether you can be trusted with additional powers. Do not take this as hatred against you, no. Interpret this as a pointer to where you need to improve to show others that you indeed can shoulder the responsibility. Keep contributing to articles, vandalism reversion and non compliant article deletion. Take part in deciding whats to be done with them (xFDs, AN, AIV, UAA), and leave the enforcing to us for the time being. Once you gain enough experience, I am sure you will qualify then. Good luck. --soum talk 08:44, 9 June == 2007 (UTC)

Dynamic Submission

I blanked the article, since another editor couninously harrassed me as I was writing it, and kept tagging it. I told him to leave it alone for 1 hour while I wrote it but every minute there was an edit confict, he is manipulating the article because I afd one of his. Being spiteful. Artilce is blanked, I will write the bloodly thing offline when I have time and post the whole think at once. People like this make me SICK!--Akc9000 22:49, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

What you are writing, Akc9000, is an advertisement (see What Wikipedia is not). One way or another, such articles do get deleted from this encyclopedia. — Athaenara 23:05, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
This editor has something against this product and or products like it because he line of work is in SEO and this product does what his company does for free for the customer! Just look at his site and what he does for a living. I have reverted the article to exactly how it was when it came out of deletion review. I have no more time to work on it tonight, This editor has plagued me for two hours now with this. Since it was undeleted in its current form, I would say it should be fine until tomarrow. I tried to explain to the other editor that I was revamping the article as a general SEO software article but he just would not leave it alone long enough for me to finish. --Akc9000 23:09, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Finishing up Dynamic Submission

Hi, I have a question. What makes this software product noteable is the fact that it won an award from PC Magazine and the fact it is actually written about in books. Can I list this info as it is? Because if it is removed, I do not see how the cites would make it noteable. In deletion review the reason why it was undeleted were this two cites now this conflict came up between me and the other editor becuase he wants to remove the cites and say the product does not work and I want the cites there. I also am working on a general article on this class of software program. This whole thing started when I put the example of the report from search engine submission software into this article. I have no idea why he says it is not an encylopedic example, it is an example of what this type of program does. Could you please clarify for me and have a look at the article dynamic submission for me. I just dont see it being written as an ad. I have written other articles many about hardware products without a peep from anyone. I just think this editor is pissed that I afd his article so he just wants this one deleted out of spite.

Please let me know what I need to do to improve it further. Thanks! --Akc9000 00:41, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

HELP

Hi and thank you, I will work on it now. I need help with this editor. He is driving me crazy. Since I afd his article, he follows my edits to complain about them. But he only complains when they are directly in his field of work. I have written other articles that he does not touch, just everything that has anything to do with search engines or seo work. This is what he does for a living. I think it is he that has a COI he manupulats things to increase his income and I have a feeling that I cannot prove he is getting a kickback from someone. It is very, very strange. I started to work on search engine submission software and he tagged it within minutes of me working on it. Something is up with this guy. Can anything be done?

Anyway, back to the other article. By the time I am done fixing it the new one I am working on will be up for speedy deletion by this guy! He is driving me crazy. He does not wait 5 minutes. I think he is just looking at my history of edits and following me. HELP! --Akc9000 01:53, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Dynamic Submission Completed

Done! Please have a look at the finished article at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Akc9000/backup

I would like to know your opinion of this article no matter what. Tell me the truth how it looks please. Thanks!

Someone Deleted it while I was writing this note! Now what? This is just unbelievable! Luckily, I made a backup. --Akc9000 02:46, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Dynamic submission

I wouldnt classify the article as blatant advertising, deltable under WP:CSD#CSD G11. But it definitely has a promotional tone to it (which is in violation of WP:NPOV). Consider placing an {{advert}} tag on the article.

However, since it is in userspace, I would avoid touching the article, rather point out the problems to the user to bring their attention on what needs to be fixed. Regards, --soum talk 16:46, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Speedy delete

No, the creator is not allowed to remove the speedy deletion tag. He can add a {{hangon}} tag and explain why it should not be deleted; others can join in the deletion as well. The decision whether to honor the speedy request is upto the admins.

As for blanking, s/he can blank it requesting the page be deleted (CSD G7). --soum talk 16:57, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

How was my edit "not constructive"??

I edited the Atomic Rooster page and changed the name of the first album (which was wrong and is now wrong again thanks to your correction) and made both it and their s/t 1980 album hotlinks. Exactly what part of correcting an error on a page is "not constructive"?? Prezuiwf 17:51, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

You spelled Rooster Roooster. Thats called making an error. -- :) Chetblong 17:51, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
It would be if it weren't for the fact that that's THE NAME OF THEIR FIRST ALBUM. http://blog.diskunion.net/user/archangel_takekawa/kami/image/271.jpg How many "o"s do you count there?? Try checking your facts next time before you accuse someone of vandalism. Prezuiwf 17:56, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
Excuse me for my error. When we revert vandalism we don't usually "check our facts", we look at the edit summary which you didn't write. -- :) Chetblong 18:00, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your exceedingly incorrect analysis but as you may have noticed that wasn't the album in question. The band's name is Rooster with 2 "o"s. The first album's name is Roooster with 3 "o"s (ergo, not self-titled). Subsequent albums, such as the one you erroneously cited and their self-titled 1980 effort, use the traditional band spelling.
