hi there, just noted a discrepancy in the life span portion of Mr. Atkins: born 06-20-24 and died 06-30-01 but at the end of the article i just read it had the death at 06-20-01 which is a ten day difference. any clues to a resolution? rcharlesmiller@yahoo.com thanks for listening, rick miller

Chet died on the 20th of June. RIP
The discrepancy must have been a type-o

Chet died on the 30th of June...Check the official website for proof.

[edit] Bias!

no one can say this reads like an encyclopedia at all. i don't know anything about atkins. someone needs to fix this, because it reads like the rants of some fan and is a current waste of space Corzia 02:52, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Even as a life-long Chet Atkins fan, I agree with this assessment. Chet deserves better. I'll undertake a rewrite, time permitting. --Cryptognome (talk) 17:24, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

I think it's getting better.Airproofing (talk) 13:22, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] wikify tag

Hey ho.

The article could use some organization. Right now, the biography section is huge, but I'm not so sure that everything there is really biographical. At the least that section should be split into subsections. Much thanks. Phiwum 20:43, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

I made an attempt. I hope it's an improvement. Respectfully, SamBlob 00:12, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Chet Atkins guitars

Little mention is made of Chet Atkins line of Gretsch guitars and just about none is made of the solid-body electro-acoustics he developed with Gibson.

I remember reading somewhere that a Gretsch spokesman and product tester named Jimmy Webster tried to get Chet Atkins to endorse their guitars. Atkins refused, claiming that his d'Angelicos gave him all he needed. Webster got permission from Gretsch management to offer Atkins a guitar model built to his specifications. Atkins accepted Webster's offer and the new model became the starting point for a line of Chet Atkins guitars, including the Nashville, the Tennesseean, and the Country Gentleman. If I could remember where I read that, I'd add it. Respectfully, SamBlob 00:53, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Top 10 guitarists

It says on the Django Reinhardt page that Chet ranked him #1 on his list of top 10 guitarists, ranking himself at #5. I'm curious to know, who were the other guitarists on his list? We could maybe put this in the article as well. --Bluerain talk 18:32, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Chet atkins.jpg

Image:Chet atkins.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 20:40, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Chester & Lester

No mention at all of "Chester and Lester", Chet and Les Paul, release date: 1976, RCA, and "Guitar Monsters", release date: 1978, RCA. These collaborations of Chet and Les Paul MUST be included in Chet's discography, just as they are on Les Paul's Wikipedia entry. Mehamner (talk) 02:48, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Discography

I've been trying make headway on adding Chet's albums to the discography. I'm not always sure of the chronology though as they seem to differ in a number of places. Any editing help there will be appreciated. Airproofing (talk) 16:41, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm going to split the discography out eventually I think. What do others think? It's very large and needs to be categorized with principal works/studio, collaborations, compilations, etc. Airproofing (talk) 23:21, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Another photo

I added a photo of Hank Snow and Chet from Reminiscing back cover. If it isn't clear enough or inappropriate, someone could replace or remove it. Thanks. Airproofing (talk) 14:36, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
