Initially I wanted to add every country which had chess category on wikipedia in the list. I got a bit bored and so have posted the article prematurely. About 45/90 countries are done. Please do help out if you can. The FIDE pages needed are listed in the references. Not that the fide website is a bit broken and the way to get the number of GM's and rated players is enterning something like that http://www.fide.com/ratings/avgtoplist.phtml?country=CHN (so with the 3 letter code).
