[edit] Cherupuzha, My Hometown

Cherupuzha is one of the most beautiful places in Kannur District, Kerala, India. Located about 30 kilometers to the east of Payyannur, Cherupuzha is situated on the confluence of Cheriyapuzha (or the small river) and Valiyapuzha (or the big river, aka Karyamkodu River). It is home to some of the hardest working people in the world.

Built by hardworking migrants from South Kerala, Cherupuzha today is a flourishing trading center as well as one of the most important towns in North Kerala. It is well connected by road to other major towns in the area. The urbanization of this area, and the prosperity of its people over the last couple of decades is truely amazing. From being a very ho-hum little town in the late 1970's it has grown to become the cultural and educational center for the entire area.

Cherupuzha is a lush green oasis with its flourishing rubber, pepper, arcanut, and coconut plantations. More than its natural beauty, it is the inner beauty of its people that makes Cherupuzha a unique place. The religious amity of this area is a model for the rest of the state.

[edit] Major Landmarks

Important landmarks include St. Mary's Church, St Mary's High School, Ayyappa Temple, Cherupuzha Mosque, St. Joseph's Church, St. Joseph's Higher Secondary School, JMUP School, and St. Sebastians Hospital. Both St. Mary's and St. Joseph's are well known for their high educational standards. St. Joseph's, a superpower in sports, has contributed some of the best young volleyball players of the state over the years.
