Chettinad Vidyashram is a private school which was founded by the Kumara Rani of Chettinad Dr. Meena Muthiah in 1986. The school is located in the R.A Puram area in the city of Chennai.
The school enrolls children from kindergarten to high school. It is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, India. The medium of instruction at Chettinad Vidyashram is English, and two other languages from Hindi, Tamil, Sanskrit or French is mandatory. As of 2007, the school had 12,457 students enrolled.

In 1986, Kumara Rani Dr Meena Muthiah, founded the school with a motivation "to start an educational centre, combining the virtues of a Temple of Art and Culture - a dedicated school that blends discipline with freedom, endeavouring to raise the integrated child".

The aim of the school is "to tie up with the past in art, tradition and culture in all its purity and variety and to lead the younger generation into the future through methodical dissemination of scientific knowledge."
The motto of the school is the the golden mean. The school claims to strive "for discipline without distaste and for freedom within limits"

The school is set amidst natural surroundings. It has a well-equipped library, five science laboratories, one biotechnology laboratory, two mathematics laboratories, two language laboratories and two audio-visual theatres with multi-media projection systems. [1]. Apart from academics, the school also offers specialized training in various extra-curricular activities.
The school has a various recreational facilities, including swimming pool and the facilities to play Tennis, Cricket, Basketball, Chess, Gymnastics, Table Tennis and Volleyball. The school also has mandatory coaching in Arts, Music and Dance up to primary school level, beyond which students can pursue activities of their choice.
The school has a NCC and Girl Guides wing, which "aims to develop qualities of character, courage and leadership".
The school also has swimming pools for children of different age groups.

The school is fairly busy throughout the year. A Sports Day is conducted in September, an inter-school cultural meet (Maithri) or Science fair in October/November/December, and an Annual Day in February. Students of Classes IX and XI host a Farewell Party for the outgoing students in February every year. There is also a reunion party for the alumni, on the last Sunday of June every year. Apart from all that, the Tamil and Hindi literary clubs organize a variety of competitions and there are other competitions and events. Occasionally, events of public importance like blood donation camps are held.
The school has its own magazine, "Vision", which is published every year.

- The school, which was represented by students Siddharth Srinivasan and Karthik Dass, was the first from South India to win the Bournvita Quiz contest in the year 2000
- Another alumnus Saindhavi, is a playback singer and has received an award from the President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.[citation needed]
- Sharadha Viswanathan was All India 4th in the CBSE 10th board exams in 98-99.
- Nitish Krishna,Sailesh Krishna and Gautham Srinivas of the school have won the "Best School Team Award" at the Landmark Quiz 2006 and in many other quizzes.They have also won the Hindu Young World Quiz 2006.
- Sai Kripashankar and Varun Sundar came second place in the "Bharat ko Jaano" quiz competition organized by Bharat Vikas Parishad during the year 2006.
- Nikhilesh Rajaraman of 8th standard won the 6th rank in the All India Science Olympiad conducted by the Delhi based Science Olympiad foundation.
- Gautham Srinivas and Nitish Krishna were awarded First place in the Young World All India quiz championship held at Madurai in Tamil Nadu.
- Sailesh also received Rs.42,500 for participating in 'India's child genius' hosted by Siddhartha Basu.He was 3rd in the south zone and reached the national semi-finals.He was the youngest participant in the contest.
- The school's girls basketball team is ranked first in India.[citation needed]
The school also has its own theatre group called "Chettinad Players" which has staged plays such as "Karna:The Eternal Warrior" and staged "Vaali Vadham" in 2006 as a part of its annual public show, directed by Mr.Jayakumar.
