Chetan used to accompany his father to the badminton stadium to watch his father practice for the Lecturer's tournament. Chetan himself had started to take personal interest in badminton. Later, he slowly started playing under Mr. P. U. Bhaskar Babu, a NSTC coach in VPS public school, where Chetan was pursuing his schooling.

[edit] Badminton career

Chetan started his Badminton career in 1992 at the Mini Nationals in Mumbai. Chetan was successful in doubles in his early badminton career, pairing with JBS Vidhyadhar and A. Prithvi. He used to play singles but was not successful until the age of 16, where he reached his first open nationals singles final in Kerala but couldn't win the title.

Chetan Anand was constantly encouraged by Mr. Prakash Padukone, arguably the best international player in badminton ever produced by India. Chetan's career had a real turn when he was sent to the World Academy camp in Kaula Lumpur, Malayasia by Prakash Padukone. He had a real improvement in his game and also self confidence. After that camp it was totally different Chetan. He directly came from that camp to play a junior ranking tournament in Chennai. He was simply flawless throughout all of the tournament and won his first singles title of his career. From then on, there was no stopping him in the juniors category. The same year he made his mark in the senior category as well, reaching the semifinals in all of the senior ranking tournaments, and shooting up into the top 8th in the country. He finished that memorable year by becoming the Junior National Champion.

In senior's he just started his career just at right time when Pullela Gopichand was suffering from an injury after his triumph at All England Championships in 2001 March. In 2001 August, Asian Satellite tournament was held in Banglore and everyone felt gopi was missing but Chetan Anand did not disappoint the Home crowd. No one in the stadium expected him to reach the finals but he just made that evening memorable for him and the Banglore crowd by winning the tournament. It was Chetan's first win in the senior category and it came at an international tournament. Later he won all the rankings that year and after winning the Udaipur ranking in which even pullela Gopichand played and lost in semifinals and Chetan shot to the Number One position in India. But later that year Chetan was shocked by Ravinder singh in the National Championship in Lucknow in Pre-Quarter finals where Chetan was hot favorite for the tournament. Chetan was not disappointed he just made sure that he has to work more harder to become a national champion.

Chetan was once again shocked by Abhin Shyam Gupta in the finals after a flawless display at the National Championship in Guwhati. He was to become National Champion another 2 times.
