Chester Dewey

Chester Dewey (1784-1867) was an American scientist. He was born in Sheffield, Mass., and, graduating from Williams College in 1806, was professor of mathematics and natural philosophy there from 1810 to 1827. From 1850 until 1860 he was professor of chemistry and natural philosophy in the University of Rochester. Dr. Dewey made many contributions to science.
