Cherti (woreda)

Cherti (also spelled Chereti) is one of the 47 woredas in the Somali Region of Ethiopia, named after its major town, Cherti. Part of the Afder Zone, Cherti is bordered on the south by the Ganale Dorya River which separates it from the Liben Zone, on the west by Guradamole, on the north by Elekere, on the east by Afder, and on the southeast by Dolobay.

Perennial rivers in Cherti include the Mena. This woreda is primarily inhabited by the Hawiye clan of the Somali people.

Based on figures published by the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this woreda has an estimated total population of 81,906, of whom 37,248 were males and 44,658 were females; 8,903 or 10.87% of its population are urban dwellers, which is greater than the Zone average of 8.6%. Information is not available for the area of Cherti, so its density cannot be calculated.[1]
