Cherokee Trail High School is a public secondary-educational institution located in the eastern portion of the city of Aurora, Colorado. It is the sixth high school in the Cherry Creek School District and the number one largest high school in the district. The school campus is closed to freshmen and sophomores, with limited exceptions, while it is open to juniors and seniors, with conditions and initial permission. Cherokee Trail High School is an International Baccalaureate Diploma School.

Cherokee Trail competes in the 4A Skyline league for sports. Cherokee Trail is also home to Legacy Stadium, the largest school stadium in Colorado. The stadium boasts an advanced artificial grass field, ticket booths, cable broadcasting cameras and A/V equipment, as well as modern architecture.

On May 19, 2007, both the Boys Track and Baseball teams won the Colorado State Championship in their respective sports.[1][2]

Starting in the year 2008, in Fall Cherokee Trail High School will be promoted to 5A League.

[edit] Performing Arts

Cherokee Trail is known for its rising performing arts program. Every year, the school produces one fall drama, one spring musical, and a compilation of student written and directed one acts. Additionally, there is an end-of-year showcase of solos, duets, and various choirs.

In the 2004-2005 school year, the performing arts department put on its first fall drama, "John Lennon and Me". Afterwards, the department produced its first musical, "Grease", which proved to be a large success.

During the 2005-2006 school year, the school produced "Inherit the Wind" as its fall play and The "Wizard of Oz" as its spring musical.

The school year 2006-2007 held a thespian show which was student written/directed, called "The Great Ice Heist." Following that, the fall show, "All in the Timing" and the spring musical, "South Pacific" were also performed. The eventful school year closed with another thespian produced play in the spring, "The Diary of Anne Frank".

The 2007-2008 school year began with the acclaimed drama, "Charley's Aunt", and the highly successful "Beauty and the Beast". For this musical, the school was nominated for and won the award "Best Theatre School in the Cherry Creek School District" by the School Board. The performing arts department also presented its successful student written/directed One Acts in the Spring, as well as the First Annual Variety Show Performing Arts Schowcase.

Additionally, Cherokee Trail is the home of the International Thespian Society Troupe #6971. Participation in Thespian Events includes the 2007 International Thespian Conference.
