Cherielynn Westrich

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cherielynn Westrich is an American musician, best known as the former vocalist/keyboardist for The Rentals. She played on the first of their two albums, Return of the Rentals and toured in support but left the band prior to the recording of Seven More Minutes. With The Rentals she was best known for her live energy, her vocal harmonies with Petra Haden and her signature bright blonde hair. Westrich also did a majority of the songwriting work on the Rentals live favorite "My Summer Girl," yet she is given no co-writing credit for having done so in the Return of the Rentals liner notes. (note: Matt Sharp has since given her the credit deserved in a rewriting of the liner notes on therentals.com

Prior to her time with The Rentals, she was the bassist and vocalist for Supersport 2000 who, despite having demoed "somewhere between 35 and six million songs", only released a single three-song EP (Pinkslip in 1995) and the song "Faster Kiddies" which was on the Hear You Me! compilation CD. In 2001 she also was the singer in the original incarnation of L.A. based shoegaze/indie rock band, The Slow Signal Fade, the never released EP titled 3 songs & a cover in 2000 was an underground catch, including an esoteric cover of math metal band TOOL's song "Prison Sex". Westrich is no longer with The Slow Signal Fade.

She currently lives in Los Angeles, where she continues to write music and pursue her other hobby, restoring vintage cars. She often appears on the program Overhaulin which airs on the TLC_Network. There are no current plans for her to be involved in the future of The Rentals.
