Cheras is a suburb of Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia. The township is located to the southeast of Kuala Lumpur. Cheras is also adjacent to Ampang to the north and Kajang to the south, both of which are major cities within the metropolitan area of Kuala Lumpur.

Cheras played host to the 1995 SEA games, therefore housing many international standard sports facilities and stadiums, including the Tun Razak Football stadium.

Cheras is ideal for tourists and itinerant executives looking for accommodation that doesn't come with the urban bustle, but still accessible from the city centre.
Hotel Caliber, located along MRR2 or Middle Ring Road in Cheras, offers 132 comfortable, reasonably priced, and tastefully furnished rooms. It also has a restaurant, KTV, conference room, Wi-Fi services, and health spa.

Cheras hosts several LRT stations. On the Star LRT Line, the Cempaka station is located in Pandah Indah.The Tun Razak Rail interchange is also connected to the KLIA through the KLIA Transit, a 20 minute journey. There are also a number of buses that goes through Cheras. Major highways in Cheras include Jalan Cheras, Jalan Cheras-Kajang and Jalan Cheras-Seremban.

Several local shopping centres were established in Cheras with varying success, they include Leisure Mall, Connaught Market Centre (Giant Hypermarket), Carrefour Cheras, Jaya Jusco, UE3 (Uncang Emas), Phoenix Plaza (which was opened in 1995 by film star Jackie Chan) and Hero Hyper Market, located at Taman Tasik Permaisuri. There are many shophouses, street markets and weekend markets all over the Cheras suburban estates. The pasar malam is filled with pirated goods such as DVDs and fake branded fashion attire(bags,watches,shoes...etc) The pasar malam is always pack as hell, you can barely move. There is Bintang Walk in KL and this pasar malam shall be Penguin Walk. Usually pasar malam is the source for oriental hawker food, but for this particular pasar malam it is hard to find any; where it is dominated by stalls that sells fashion accesories and other unusual and useless goods such as a "magic" wallet that increase the chances of dropping the money that is kept in it.
Cheras is also the home to the longest pasar malam in Malaysia at Taman Connaught.

Nigel Lim - a Pulitzer prize winning novelist and observational critic of Malaysian culture & life in general. His acclaimed work on the historical, social and political evolution of Malaysia entitled `The Malaysian Hypocrisy' has polarised readers since its release. He now resides overseas as a repercussion of the publicity the book has generated. His next piece of work is said to be autobiographical in nature. No release date has been set.
Nicholas Lim - brother of Nigel, a seminal figure in the burgeoning online entrepreneurial community.

Each Taman (Garden, or housing estate) in Cheras has its own designated hawker center. Food offered in the area includes bak kut teh, seafood, assam laksa, "De Mou" and Thai food.
