Cheonan is a city northeast of South Chungcheong province, South Korea. It's neighbored by Cheongwon and Jincheon to the east, and with Asan to west. Cheonan is 83.6Km south of Seoul.[3] The city is connected to Seoul and Daejeon, both by road and by train. Regular Gyeongbu Line trains stop at Cheonan Station in the city center, while the KTX on the express line stops at Cheonan-Asan Station. Seoul Subway Line 1 has been extended to Cheonan, and metro trains began running between Seoul and Cheonan in January 2005.

Cheonan is known for several agricultural products including grapes and ya pears. The tightly-packed city center is surrounded by small mountains. The main tourist attraction is the nearby Independence Hall, a large exhibition about the Korean independence movement. The city is also known for a small walnut-flavored cake in the size and shape of a walnut.

The city is home to two soccer clubs - National League side Cheonan City FC and K3 League side Cheonan FC.

Cheonan is famous for walnut cookies. In Korean, it is called Cheonan Hodugwaja (천안호두과자) meaning walnut cookies from Cheonan. Taking trains, it is easy to see selling box-shaped cookies.

Its most well-known festival is Heungtaryeong Festival(흥타령 축제). 흥 means pleasure and joy in Korean language and usually refers to joyful Korean music. 타령 indicates sorts of traditional music. There was tune called Cheonansamgeori meaning Cheonan three streets.

Dancing festival is the essence of whole events from B-boy to traditional dances from India, Africa, Australia, Ukraine. Lots of teams also participate in festival from 17 other nations such as China and Japan.[4]

The festival started 2003 and it got position of "prepared", "promising" 2006 and 2007 respectively. As of Dec 26th of 2007, festival promoted to the degree of "excellent festival.[5] That is, it came to get the title from 2008.
