Chennai Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) is a new transportation project approved by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi. Beginning at Adyar, the route will cover Saidapet, Jafferkanpet, Porur, Puzhal, Manali, Chennai Central Railway Station, Lighthouse and will return to Adyar. The highway will cover a distance of 122 KM. The route of the elevated highway will run along the banks of Cooum and Adyar rivers as well as Buckingham canal. The elevated highway will have a total of four lanes with one lane each direction dedicated for bus transport and the other lanes for other vehicles. The project is expected to be completed by 2013.
