Chena Hot Springs, Alaska

Chena Hot Springs is a hot spring, resort, and community 56.5 miles northeast of Fairbanks, Alaska near the Chena River State Recreation Area. The resort makes use of the first low-temperature binary geothermal power plant built in Alaska, and is working on several alternative energy projects, including production and use of hydrogen and vegetable oil for fuel. The resort is conducting collaborative experiments in greenhouse production of vegetables with the University of Alaska Fairbanks Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station.
The group Yukon Ryder released a song about the resort on their first album, Respect for the Cold.
Award winning IgoUgo travel guide MilwVon has written an extensive travel journal on her experiences at Chena Hot Springs Resort (3/07). Her 2007 photo of the aurora borealis taken at Chena Hot Springs was awarded the best nature photo of 2007 by IgoUgo readers and editors.
