Chen Deng (170 - 208) styled Yuan Long was a strategist of the late Eastern Han Dynasty and the Three Kingdoms era.
As his father Chen Gui was in Xuzhou when Lu Bu seized it from Liu Bei, Chen Deng pretended to serve Lu Bu while he secretly plotted his downfall. Ignoring the sound advice of Chen Gong, Lu Bu led troops out of Xuzhou on a campaign. Upon suffering a disastrous defeat at the hands of Cao Cao, Lu Bu was forced to retreat to Xuzhou. However, Chen Deng seized control of the city in his absence and refused to grant entry to Lu Bu. Eventually, Chen Deng surrendered the city to Cao Cao and became an officer under Liu Bei.
With the enemy troops hot on pursuit, Lu Bu had no choice but to retreat to Xiapi (his last standing bastion) where he fought his last battle, got betrayed by his own men Song Xian and Wei Xu and executed by Cao Cao.
