Chemlab

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Chemlab is an U.S. coldwave and industrial rock band formed in Washington D.C., USA, in 1989 by Dylan Thomas More, Joe Frank (not the radio personality), and Jared Louche (then known as Hendrickson). Influenced by the pioneers of the Industrial genre, such as Throbbing Gristle, Chemlab mixed rough, experimental sounds with Rock and Roll and Metal to create their music. Dubbing their hard, drug-influenced Machine Rock sounds "Angel-Dustrial,"[citation needed] they released their first EP 10 Ton Pressure, parted ways with Frank and moved to New York City, their base for the duration of their career. The band built up a strong fanbase by endlessly touring with artists such as White Zombie, KMFDM, Nine Inch Nails, GWAR, and countless others.

After releasing the seminal albums Burn Out At The Hydrogen Bar and East Side Militia on Fifth Column Records, Chemlab broke up in 1997 and then reformed in 2004 to release an album entitled Oxidizer with Jared as the only original member. After a massive seven year hiatus from the stage, Jared recreated Chemlab and, with a backing band comprised of the members of electro-industrial group mindFIELD performed a tight, well-received, one-off show in Boston, Massachusetts in August of 2005. Due to the substantial success of the show, the band played another one-off show, this time in New York City on January 7, 2006. A third show in San Francisco on March 17, 2006, saw the band joined by fellow classic coldwave bands Babyland and Deathline International. The band has recently played at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival and the Blacksun Festival. Following these dates, the band (which may or may not feature a return of members from its long lineup) is planning more recordings as well as a return to full-on touring.

On August 1, 2007, Jared announced on hydrogenbar.com that Chemlab will be touring throughout the United States and Canada at the end of 2007. The tour will run from approximately November 14 to December 14th. It's the band's first US tour in eight years. The line-up holds the following names: multi-instrumentalist/programmer Gabriel Shaw (mindFIELD), Wade Alin (Christ Analogue) and Jason Bazinet (SMP). Support for the tour comes from USSA featuring Paul Barker (ex-Ministry) and Duane Denison (Jesus Lizard, Tomahawk) and Ipecac recording artist Skeleton Key. [1]
