Cheeranchira

Cheeranchira is a suburb of Changanasserry town, Kerala State in India. It is around 4 km from downtown. It is one of the first settlements in Changanachery Taluk. Most of the early settlers from Vazhappally another suburb of changanasserry and one of the first settlements in the state of Kerala.

[edit] Origin of the Name

The name cheeran chira originated from Cheeran's(Cheeran in a Keralite name) chira, which small parcel of land mostly surrounded by water.

[edit] Anju Bobby George

It was here that Anju Bobby George was born, spent her early years. Anju Bobby George made history when she won the bronze medal in Long Jump at the 2003 World Championships in Athletics in Paris. With this achievement, she became the first Indian athlete ever to win a medal in a World Championships in Athletics clearing 6.70 m. She went on to win the silver medal at the IAAF World Athletics Final in 2005, a performance she considers her best.

Rev.Fr.T.C Jacob Thalakulam(1907-1976),well known as manager achen was the manager of old seminary,kottayam for 30 long years was the manager of Catholicate aramana for 15 important years in the history of Indian orthodox church.He was one of the most respected personality in malankara sabha in the 20th century.Schools and libraries were built in his memory. Almost every books about malankara sabha had some words about him.He was respected and worked along with one of the two declared saints of malankara sabha,Vattaseril Thirumeni and with three Catholicos (H.H Basilious Ghevarghese 2nd,H.H Augen 1st,H.H Mathews 1st) of the church.Lots of book about him are available including "Fr T.C Jacob oru anusmaranam" by T.U Mathew Thalakulam (Malayala Manorama).

Two schools(Fr.T.C Jacob eng. medium school,Cheeranchira govt.school) and an Indian Orthodox church(St.Marys Church well known as Cheeranchira pally)and a Catholic Church and are located in this suburb. Once a farming community it is now mostly comprised of employees, NRI families and businessmen. The first planned subdivision in Changanasserry, “Vani Gardens” is located in Cheeranchira.

It is the homeland of Cheeranchira Kannampallil]]” family.It is one of the well known and oldest family in Cheeranchira.It is home to the famous "Thalakulam Family" (Well known Orthodox christian family , famous as family of Fr. T.C Jacob)“, the "[(Mundaplammoottil)]" family, whose members include the Reverend Father M.C. George, a preeminent speaker and priest of the Malankara Orthodox Church,“Mavelil” Family, “Padanilam” Family are some of the most reputed Catholic families in Kerala (resettled from Vadakekara & Vazhappally). Also the "Moolayil" Family, a reputed Syriac Orthodox Family also have a large number of family members settled here. Manamel is also an ancient catholic family setteled here.

"Kizhakkekuttu" is also a well-known Malankara Orthodox Syrian Christian family in Cheeranchira
