Oh, I didn't see that above mine! It's most likely a coincidence (yeah, I told anyways). :D Oh well, at least "Jhony" is spelled differently from "Johnny". ^_^ AL2TB ^_^ 02:16, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
The requesting user's blocklog could very well be of concern; a recent block for abusing sockpuppets. seresin | wasn't he just...? 02:52, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
I was falsely accused as a sockpuppet. I must have been meatpuppeting like my cousin; I don't know if it's as bad as sockpuppeting. So I filled an usupation request for this very reason... maybe so it's easier to clear my name. Ask PrestonH; I'm sure he understands as he also believes that I'm not a sockpuppet. ^_^ AL2TB ^_^ 00:37, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, different spelling. Anyway that was really funny.  Jhony   03:34, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
If you were falsely accused - why did the RFCU come out as "Likely"? --Rschen7754 (T C) 01:02, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
Because my stupid cousin edited Wikipedia as Artisol2345 under my computer for three months long when he was at my house for a summer party for three months, then talked me into it because he knew I liked roads too and thought this would be a fun hobby to do. It is, but it's not fun with you around accusing me as a sockpuppet just because I picked up my cousin's editing style a little bit. ^_^ AL2TB ^_^ 01:07, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Please change it soon. I did had any idea that username would appear in history rather then the Person's Name.

Bureaucrat note: Your current account is very new - usurpation of existing accounts is restricted to users who have been reasonably active on Wikipedia so that we can make sure accounts will be put to good use. You have 2 options: either continue editing under your present name for a couple of months and ask again or request a name that isn't already taken at Wikipedia:Changing username. [edit] Matthew Edwards ← Matthewedwards

User:Matthew Edwards has made 1 edit back in 2005. I'd like to usurp the name to prevent an impersonator, especially if I ever decide to go for adminship, and will make that account a doppleganger account) -- Matthew | talk | Contribs 21:13, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

Note:
  • The target username has made edits to Wikipedia. Users with GFDL significant edits may not be usurped. Yes, the target account has made one edit, but it is in line with the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License and was not reverted or removed quickly, hence, this username should not be usurped. Qst (talk) 21:17, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
But it was such a minor edit, and three years ago. I really don't think the original creator is coming back... -- Matthew | talk | Contribs 23:02, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
The edit is minor enough (changing one word, "onboard" to "in") and such a long time ago (Oct 2005) that this rename will be performed at a bureaucrat's discretion. Note that once the usurpation is performed, the account Matthewedwards will no longer exist, you will have to reregister it to prevent impersonation. XENON54 | talk 01:22, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

I forgot about that. -- Matthew | talk | Contribs 03:16, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

No, it will not be performed at bureaucrats discretion; the edit was valid and did not violate the GNUFDL, hence, this rename will not be performed, I can assure you. I've removed your below request, you do not need to usurp a username using a specially created account. Qst (talk) 15:49, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] X ← Haza-w

Original account was indefinitely blocked and has only deleted contributions. Unsure on where policy stands on this one. haz (talk) 19:47, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

I think someone wanted to usurp X before, and as such we should check the precedent for this. Andre (talk) 21:48, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
Indeed, there has been a request to usurp this name before, here. The request was denied as X has been blocked, and the block implied the account had deleted edits. According to a clerknote by WjBscribe, (he was not yet a bureuacrat) deleted edits were a bar to usurpation then, while now they are not. When Secretlondon closed the request, she did not provide a reason. According to current practice, I do not believe there is anything to prevent usurpation per se. The blocklog will not move upon renaming, so we do not need to be concerned with that. seresin | wasn't he just...? 01:21, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Clerk note: I can't see any deleted edits, is it just me or something else? --Chris 10:22, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
Edits oversighted, possibly? In any case, these are the only logs available for the user; there are no log entries for actions performed by the user. Is it wise to place the request on the user talk page at this point? Assuming that all contributions from the user have been deleted/oversighted, that would presumably leave no barrier to usurpation, apart from the blocking issue. haz (talk) 22:47, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
I've placed the request on the talk page and since Xaosflux blocked X as a "shared account" I'm going to ask him to take a look at this request. --Chris 00:22, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
Moved to the 17th section since the notice was only placed on the 17th. Andre (talk) 00:19, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
I can't remember where it was anymore (think it was before the oversight system though) that there was some log entry or an otherwise deleted edit from this account. Found it while considering usurping this account myself (cf. meta:User:X). From what I remember User:Xiong may be the original owner of this account (albeit they posted on the page that is was not an account), though it is certainly not in use anymore. There was also an MFD on this Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:X page after IP's were using it for non-project related content. Where to go from here, I almost think its better just left gone. — xaosflux Talk 00:56, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
Has there been any precedent of usurping blocked usernames? If so, does the block log remain for the same username even after it's been usurped, or is the block automatically moved to the newly created username? I'd rather not take over an account if it were to have a block history left behind upon takeover. haz (talk) 08:12, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Oh sorry, I hadn't realised no one had explained that. I'm afraid there is no way to move or delete block log entries at the moment. So yes, if this were done there would still be that entry in the blog log. We could use a 1 second block to add a message explaining that the account was now being operated by a different user (and to disregard the previous entry) but couldn't remove the entry itself. WjBscribe 08:18, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
OK, that makes sense. Looking through all of the info and precedent single-letter usurpation requests, I'm going to withdraw this one, as much as I would have liked the username. Thanks for the assistance. haz (talk) 18:07, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Please consider this request. Both of these accounts are mine, but I no longer can access the email account associated with the Elliott Shultz username, and have been working under the Shultze username. Because the Elliott Shultz user name appears prominently in a Google search of my name, I would like to regain control of this account. AGK (contact) 17:36, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Is having contributions a definite "NO" to usurping myself? If so, is there any other way for me to "get" this account, or as an alternative, can it be deleted and/or recreated? Thank You! Elliott Shultz (talk) 04:13, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

I believe yes. I'm not sure if a checkuser (which would prove any relationship between the two accounts) can be run for an usurpation. As for account deletion, it's not possible because your edits have to be attributed to that account. You can, however, place links between the two accounts' userpages along with a text bit to the effect of "I used to edit under Elliott Shultz". Xenon54 13:01, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
Edits are way to old for check user data, I can't see any other way to confirm that the account is yours --Chris 10:15, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
It might be worthwhile pointing out here, that as a general rule of thumb, CheckUsers will not perform "self-request" Checks—that is to say, you cannot ask for a Check to be run on yourself. AGK (contact) 13:33, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
The have done them before in cases like this. However, a checkuser would almost certainly not be helpful, since the edits are from too long ago. seresin | wasn't he just...? 18:25, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

So is my account long lost into the winds of time? Never again shall user:Elliott Shultz contribute to Wikipedia? Is it possible then to remove the user name, and leave the edits attributed to whatever IP address I had at the time? Also (and I realize this might not be the correct forum for this) but does this mean that if I, for example, make an edit to the Brittany Spears entry, that my name must be forever emblazoned upon it? Should I take this as a warning to not use my real name? Thank you all! Elliott Shultz (talk) 00:47, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

That is the purpose of this page, yes. However, it has been agreed that there should be indications that the editor will make good use of the name, so that we don't have an editor usurping a very desired name, and then just leave a week later. Generally, number of edits is the criterion by which this is measured. seresin | wasn't he just...? 01:54, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
Even using the name for a week is better use of it than what it is being used for now. How many edits am I supposed to have to be able to change? Random007 (talk) 07:31, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
Well, that is up to a bureaucrat's discretion, but the bureaucrats often require several hundred worthwhile contributions. (i.e. not messing around in userspace and doing nothing beneficial) But only a bureaucrat can tell you for sure. seresin | wasn't he just...? 07:35, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

I used to be UserDoe, but due to private problems I decided to leave (and of course changed my password to something even i couldn't remember). After a while I came back under the user name LightAnkh, but had to close that account as well since my private problems were still not solved (don't ask...it was very complicated...). Now i'm returning for good this time and would like to get my very first account back (by renaming this (UserDœ) one into my old one and get those old contribs moved as well) or at least simply get my old contribs moved to this (UserDœ) account if possible. If this isn't possible i'll stick with this new one. User αTΩC 12:32, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
The problem is that we have nothing to confirm that you are indeed UserDoe. Since you do not have the password, and therefore cannot login, and there is no e-mail address set, there is nothing to confirm your statement. While the bureaucrats could just believe you, I cannot recall a time when this has happened when the target account had so many edits rather recently. A bureaucrat will need to use his discretion on this request. seresin ( ¡? ) 22:10, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
  • Yeah I know...I removed the mail address as well (at this time I didn't expect to return), it was the same mailaddress like the one I'm using right now...(I don't know if you can trace back which mailaddy used to be set for my old account?). I know this is quite difficult and I don't expect too much from my request, but at least I can say I tried to get my old stuff back (In the likely case that the request won't be filled). [edit] Uri ← R uri

Hello, I am an active in the Hebrew wiki (under: משתמש:אורי ר.), and sometimes contribute to the Spanish and Portuguese wiki's as well. I wish to use the user name "Uri" for the purposes of meta:SUL (the name is available in other languages). The The current user:Uri was active mainly for 6 months in 2003 (about 150 edits) and made 29 edits since, the majority of which during 2004. His one before last edit was to announced his retirement more than three years ago, and did one single edit since a couple of months ago. The user has not specified an e-mail address. I hope the current user will not object and that this request will be granted. Thanks, R uri (talk) 04:03, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Are your usernames at all those wikis "Uri"? seresin ( ¡? ) 04:06, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
Hello, no. I checked few wikis, especially those I know their language, and other than the en.wiki did not find any user name under that name. Is there a way to do a global check? thanks, R uri (talk) 22:09, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
If your name is not Uri on your main account, then you do not have a claim to the username under SUL, especially as the editor has made 183 edits as recently as two months ago. seresin ( ¡? ) 22:58, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
thanks again. Maybe I wasn't clear. In the Hebrew wiki, my main site of contribution, I had, so far, a user name in Hebrew characters, as most users do. Now, that the SUL process began, I am trying to unify my accounts and that cannot be done under my current (Hebrew) user name - so I am looking for a new one. So far here in the English wiki is the only "uri" I found, and if you will authorize me to usurp it - I will change my main account in Hebrew as well (I "own" that user name in Hebrew as well). If you will not authorize my request - I will look for another name, something I prefer not to do if possible. no point in doing all this for nothing. Regarding the current user, as I said, he made about 150 edits in mid 2003, about 30 more in 2004 and announced his retirement in 2005. Since than he did one single edit. Maybe this is enough in order for him to keep his name, but I believe me description of the contributions was more accurate. thanks, R uri (talk) 00:22, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
However, I took your advice and started usurping the user name in all languages. R uri (talk) 01:29, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
So far there only two cases other than the en.wiki that needs to be resolved (see here). the Japanese one is the most complicated and therefore I ask to put my request on hold until the other one is resolved. I would ask, though, a tentative confirmation, assuming all problems will be resolved and the English user name is the only one left, that then my request will be strongly considered. Many thanks, R uri (talk) 05:18, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
I did not say that you would be able to claim the name if you usurped the other accounts; the Uri account has many, and recent, edits and en.wp policy does not permit usurpation with such edits. seresin ( ¡? ) 05:51, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
I guess we differ on what "many" and what "recent" mean, but if this is your policy - keep it. I will leave the subject for the moment. R uri (talk) 14:14, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

I'll turn a long story short. Vampire Warrior is my account. Two things happened on it. One, I was indefinitely banned due to a suicide note. The reason for the suicide note was not a prank. Wknight94 put that it was a prank in the reason for unprotecting the user page. The reason for the note was to help me get away from a stalker I had who followed me around through several websites (I had links to sites I was on on my userpage). In the end, some Wikipedians from St. Catharines, Ontario called the police, and the police in my city, Niagara Falls, Ontario, came to my house after tracking my IP to check on me. I apologized to the police, explained the stalker situation and they assured me they'd be watching him. I came back to Wikipedia on this username to apologize for the fake note. The 2nd reason I was banned, was because Vampire Warrior was claimed to be a proxy of ImmortalKaine, which is my old account. I do not remember the password or email address for ImmortalKaine, so I simply made a new account. I was then blocked for being a "sockpuppet". I took a break from Wikipedia since December of 2007, and now I plan to return. I would like to switch this username to Vampire Warrior, and hopefully clear up the whole sockpuppet thing, because I do not abuse sockpuppets. Vampire Warrior II (talk) 16:59, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
  • Wouldn't it be better if you tried to get unblocked from the Vampire Warrior account? There isn't a need to waste server resources to rename you when that option is available. In addition, your blocklog would be noted, so you wouldn't lost that past (as well as the blocklog of your previous username). seresin ( ¡? ) 18:12, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
  • Good point. I could even just move all the userpages I just created (see my contribs) into the original username (or have an Admin do it). Vampire Warrior II (talk) 18:40, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
N Not done - renaming isn't the way to go about this. I recommend you request the block on User:Vampire Warrior be lifted, perhaps at WP:AN. If the administrators who look into it aren't willing to do that, it isn't appropriate for you to edit at all. Note that the contributions of two accounts cannot be merged. The bureaucrats may want to look at this request further. The owner of the account is a 2 month old editor with ~300 edits. The sock account is only used to "store templates" (currently all deleted and rejected voting templates, such as Keep:). I personally do not believe it is appropriate for this sock account which has very little benefit or use to usurp this username. Just my opinion, however. seresin ( ¡? ) 04:22, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
I believe this account -or more exactly it's shared userspace- benefits the whole WP community and i can't think of a better use for such a special account name. There are a lot of unofficial templates, userboxes and scripts on userpages intended for community in-house use. The ability to use easy-to-remember userspace addresses could promote the use of such material to the benefit of the community (unless you consider unofficial=bad and not a part of the whole process). There is also a precedent of usurpation for the very same purpose. The potential uses of this account are to be considered, and the way they benefit WP. If someone has questions, concerns or does not agree with this reasoning, please start a discussion on the talk page (unless you think it is more apropiate to discuss here) Iunaw 16:07, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
N Not done. If a template is useful, it belongs in the template namespace. This seems to be an attempt to create shortcuts for a range of templates that, when in the template namespace, have been deleted following community discussion. We don't need "voting" templates and I am unconvinced that this a legitimate use of the renaming process. WjBscribe 00:36, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
