'Hlophe 'John Mandlakayise
Judge President of the Cape Provincial Division of the High Court of South Africa. Born on 1 January 1959 at Stanger in KwaZulu-Natal.link title Educated at the University of Natal; the University of Fort Hare and Cambridge University , Hlophe taught law at the University of Transkei, South Africa, before being appointed in 1995 to sit as the first black judgelink title in the High Court in Cape Town, aged 36. He was appointed to head the court in 2000.
== Racism Report==
In the aftermath of controversy as to the authorship of a majority judgment in the name of Judge NJ Yekiso, in which Hlophe concurred in favour of the Minister of Health in a case in which the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry sought the setting aside of price regulations, Hlophe accused certain white judges and leading members of the Cape Bar of racism in a 43 page report link title submitted to the Minister of Justice in November 2004.
