[edit] Notability of Carolena Nericcio
A tag has been placed on Carolena Nericcio requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Anthony Rupert (talk) 20:08, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:The Indigo Bellydance.jpg
Thank you for uploading Image:The Indigo Bellydance.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 14:53, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Copyright problems
Hello. Concerning your contribution, The indigo bellydance company, please note that Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text or images obtained from other web sites or printed material, without the permission of the author(s). This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.rachelbrice.com/2006/serve_html.php/artists/. As a copyright violation, The indigo bellydance company appears to qualify for deletion under the speedy deletion criteria. The indigo bellydance company has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message.
If you believe that the article or image is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:
-
- If you have permission from the author, leave a message explaining the details at Talk:The indigo bellydance company and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
- If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:The indigo bellydance company with a link to where we can find that note.
- If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on Talk:The indigo bellydance company.
However, for textual content, you may simply consider rewriting the content in your own words. Thank you. PMDrive1061 (talk) 15:21, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
Hi. The article is taken directly from the source I listed. It is a violation of US and international copyright law to cut and paste any material from non-public domain sources without express written permission. There's nothing to contest here. This article has to be written in your own words. Hope this helps. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 15:29, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
- At the risk of sounding mean (I'm not the least bit so), there's nothing to discuss. You simply can't take text from a copyrighted site and paste it here. Please see the instructions listed above regarding permission from the original author. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 15:31, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
Sounds good. :) If you'd like a hand, please let me know. In fact, I'll give it a go myself and see if we can't bring this up to standards. Thanks for the contribution; it certainly seems like a notable group! I'm going to hang an "inuse" tag on it and clean out the copyright violations. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 15:38, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
Yup. Very much so! We have a nice, new short article on a notable group. In fact, The Indigo Belly Dance Company, which is how this should be listed, currently redirects to the exisitng article on Rachel Brice. I'll fix that in a moment. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 15:46, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
- You got it. All fixed for the time being. Have fun, welcome to the club and don't hesitiate to ask for help! --PMDrive1061 (talk) 15:54, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

I'll see what I can do. I got about 7000 Google hits, all of which seemed to be relative. I used to be an administrator under a previous username (stepped down voluntarily and in good stead), but even if I were still one, I couldn't unilaterally overturn another administrator's decision. However, it doesn't hurt to ask the one who deleted it; it still exists in the servers. Might be able to get it back for you that way.--PMDrive1061 (talk) 16:08, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Carolena Nericcio
I've userfied the deleted article to User:ChaosBaby/Carolena Nericcio. Please feel free to add sources and make sure to establish notability per Wikipedia's Notability Guidelines. When the article is "up to snuff", you can move it in to main space. Thanks! -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 20:55, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
- The problem here is that there is a good chance that this person does not and will not meet Wikipedia notability standards, no matter how hard you try. The best-written article in the world doesn't make a non-notable person notable. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 00:39, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
-
- Unfortunately, Realkyhick is correct. Unless you can find "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject," we may not be dealing with someone who is notable by Wikipedia's standards. You might try visiting the Dance WikiProject to see if they can help, but other than that the article still doesn't meet Notability. -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 02:27, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

- Yes, you need reliable, independent sources to prove that what you have written isn't simply made up. We have to be able to verify what is written, so that we may ensure that Wikipedia continues to be an accurate source of information. Sources with links to article found online would be a great help. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 02:40, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
-
-
- Carolena Nericcio invented an entire style of dance that is now performed all over the world by hundreds of dancers, what is not notable about that? And she has already been written about in several other wiki articles (as being the person that founded the particular style of dance) If users have written articles about dancers who used to be students of Carolena's and are now famous dancers themselves, then surely Carolena is notable as well? You may not have heard of her if you are not a belly dancer but there is not a belly dancer on the planet who has not heard of her!

- All the info I added here ---->>>> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:ChaosBaby/Carolena_Nericcio <<<-----is from either http://www.fcbd.com/ or other bellydance sources. I added all the references about her and websites they came from on to the above link. is that not enough info? ChaosBaby (talk) 02:51, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

- The sources you provided, particularly those from the Fat Chance Belly Dance site, cannot be considered independent sources. That is because she runs the organization, and therefore is responsible for the site itself. In other words, it is highly unlikely that she would permit information on the site which does not put her in the best possible light. We need independent sources so that others may verify that this person is notable, not just those which are inherently favorable toward her. Are there any newsletters, magazines or websites about belly dancing in general which might have articles about her? That's what we need. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 02:54, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

- Great. I suspect that once you do this, notability will be proved, even if it is in a "niche" community. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 03:22, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:The Indigo Bellydance.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:The Indigo Bellydance.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:12, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

- The image i used was off the Indigo bellydance's myspace profile and is a promotonal pic which is available for sharing and posting onto other websites via a link on that page. I was not sure which catagory the image would come under on wiki. ChaosBaby (talk) 20:52, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Aaaaagh!! :S WIKI MODERATORS PLEASE READ!!
HELLO Can someone explain to me why I keep getting tagged for Vandalism? I have not done anything other than look at my messages and add some references to a page. I am new to this and still learning the ropes, I keep getting pulled up constantly for things before I even get the chance to spot and fix them myself. It takes longer for me to do things than the wiki moderators, I seem to keep getting pulled up for things even when I have made no changes to anything :S Help anyone? ChaosBaby (talk) 00:51, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
-
- Hello, Thanks for your help, I think I have sorted everything now. ChaosBaby (talk) 20:43, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Vandalism warning?
I don't see any new warnings. Check the timestamp and see if the one you're thinking of may be a little old. It also may be a bot that automatically flags an image that it doesn't think has proper copyright clearance. Sometimes those bots can be annoying. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 22:27, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
