[edit] Randy Gordon

Chad, on Darcy Burner's page you apparently made a change indicating that Randy Gordon had dropped out of the WA-8 CD race ... is that true?

[edit] Page names

Please don't make page titles that are subsidiaries of other pages, for example "Page/subpage". Wikipedia has specifically stoppped using that format. Just create the "subpage" article with a full title of its own. I'm not sure of the value of creating all of these pages for boards, but that's a different matter. -Will Beback 21:24, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Deletion conversation

Chadlupkes, hello. Over in the deletion queue we're discussing whether or not some corporate-board member biographies reach the level of notability for wikipedia. I noticed you had entered some of these, and I thought you might want to join that discussion. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/George_L._Miles cheers --Lockley 23:24, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

Hey Chad, to answer your question "Is there an article related to the subject of board members being part of multiple boards?", there appear to be 2: Interlocking directorate and Corporate interlocks. The 1st is brief; the 2nd seems to deal with the issue from a sociological standpoint rather than corporate governance. I'm going to expand the first one and welcome your advice & guidance. --Lockley 21:12, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Oregon and Washington elections

Hi Chad,

I looked at your work, and I'm very impressed. Thanks very much for saying hello. I expect there's lots we can learn from each other's efforts. I like the way you categorized things, and I think I'll probably restructure what I've done into categories like yours.

I'd be interested in discussing in more detail. If you want to contact me: peteforsyth is the address and the domain is mac. (Sorry, I'm paranoid of spidering spambots!)

[edit] Oregon election

Hi Chad,

Thanks for the note. Yes, I had originally made the legislature table a separate table. A novice Wikipedia editor pointed out to me how difficult that made it to make modifications...and I realized it really served no purpose to keep it separate, so I copied it into the main page.

Unfortunately, when I attempted to delete the now-irrelevant table page, a "bot" would not allow me to.

If you know a way to get it deleted, delete away!

Thanks, -Pete

[edit] Bruce Guthrie

Hi,

I was the person who removed the biographical paragraph from the Bruce Guthrie article. The reason I removed it is that it is a direct copy of text from a page which asserts copyright [2]. This page asserts a copyright, so I don't think that this text can stand as it is. Am I misunderstanding the copyright policy? ScottW 20:24, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, I agree that the information should exist in some form. There's actually a little more information I'm planning on putting in once the AfD issue is resolved (assuming it's kept). I may also try to reorganize the information as well. I saw your changes to the paragraph, and I think that it should be ok (although I'm not sure that technically it is different enough). I've also made a change to the first sentence. See what you think, if you get time. ScottW 23:24, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Elections

Just wanted to say thanks for the template suggestion for Georgia, I haven't had time to get started on it until now - funny how being forced to stay at work past 7:30 on a Friday can create time ;-P Ataru 23:31, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

  • Yes, there are Georgia state legislature elections this year, but (un)fortunately I've been busy working on the actual campaigns rather than updating the Wikipedia articles :-) Ataru 05:27, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Korean Language Institute

The problem is that the whole Wikipedia article is a copy of a source that is not giving information for free. If there is not enough information about the topic, it is better to have no article than to have a copy from a copyrighted text. Note that the article is giving two external links but no reference. When copying something from another site, use a quote or italics, and add the link just after the quotation, so that it can be seen as reference. -- ReyBrujo 17:16, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Yes, of course. Rewriting the article is a good step. As for "automatically declaring that anything copied and not formatted properly is grounds for deletion and possible blocking of the user", don't worry. Unless the user keeps adding dubious copyright statements, he will not be blocked. At worst, if the article is deleted it can be recreated. The article was tagged by a bot[3] which does a search for every new article and reports if the text has been found somewhere. We are not trying to discourage people from creating articles, but instead to educate them. You can create a temporal page from that Institute page. If the article is deleted due copyright problems, the copy is put in its place. -- ReyBrujo 19:37, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
Yes. Nobody has written anything there, yet. From National Institute of Korean Language, you will see a If you plan to write a new article, please follow this link to a temporary subpage. Click on the red link, and you will be directed to a temporary page. Write the article there, and once an administrator deletes the main page, he will move the temporary page where the other was. -- ReyBrujo 15:57, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Featured list candidate

I thought you'd like to know that List of United States federal legislation has been nominated to be a Featured List. It needs 4 votes by October 2, 2006.

As I have labored hard on the article, I would appreciate your looking it over. You can find a discussion here: Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of United States federal legislation.

Thank you!

[edit] Joshua I. Smith

Joshua I. Smith has been proposed for deletion. An editor felt this person might not be notable enough for an article. Please review Wikipedia:Notability (people) for the relevant guidelines. If you can improve the article to address these concerns, please do so.

If no one objects to the deletion within five days by removing the "prod" template, the article may be deleted without further discussion. If you remove the prod template, the article will not be deleted, but if an editor is still not satisfied that it meets Wikipedia guidelines, it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. NickelShoe (Talk) 16:53, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, I understand. The emphasis on notability has centered somewhat on verifiability, though, so if you have sources... NickelShoe (Talk) 17:24, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
You show notability by the fact that other people have published about something. Have you read WP:N lately? NickelShoe (Talk) 17:39, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Michael L. Eskew

Can you please rewrite the article so it sounds like an article and not a resume? Thanks! 14:45, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your edit to Frank G. Zarb

[edit] Message posted on Thursday, May 31, 2007

Please do not post copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder, as you did to Frank G. Zarb. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites (http://www.nasd.com/PressRoom/NewsReleases/1997NewsReleases/NASDW_010447 in this case) or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author leave a message explaining the details on the article Talk page and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:Frank G. Zarb with a link to where we can find that note;
  • If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on the article Talk page. Alternatively, you may create a note on your web page releasing the work under the GFDL and then leave a note at Talk:Frank G. Zarb with a link to the details.

Otherwise, you are encouraged to rewrite this article in your own words to avoid any copyright infringement. After you do so, you should place a {{hangon}} tag on the article page and leave a note at Talk:Frank G. Zarb saying you have done so. An administrator will review the new content before taking action.

It is also important that all Wikipedia articles have an encyclopedic tone and follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.

Delete it then. If the community is not interested in collecting information like this, then I guess it's not an encyclopedia entry. Chadlupkes 16:45, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
The point is that it is text that has been copied without permission. Copyrights are important and need to be respected. One cannot just copy text from another source and insert it into wikipedia without confirming that the text is either public domain or released under the GFDL. There are links in the above message that can help you understand these issues. Regards. -- Whpq 16:49, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
I understand that now. I didn't understand it in December, 2005 when I made the copy. There have been some changes and additions made to it since then. I'm no longer working on it, so delete it if you feel that is necessary. Chadlupkes 16:53, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:FL-districts-108v.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:FL-districts-108v.JPG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 02:07, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] KKSM

A tag has been placed on KKSM, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the article and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. PMDrive1061 19:53, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

So we're not even allowed to leave a stub now? I'm trying to encourage people to help fill in the blanks because I don't have time to do everything. But, if that's the rules, I'll just go somewhere else to try and build information infrastructure. Wikipedia is less and less meaningful and useful as a tool because of rules that are approaching imperialism. That's coming from a friend of Jimbo. Chadlupkes 21:39, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
  • With all due respect, I don't have time either. Too big a project. The imperialistic attitude is why I left this project before. However, there are minimum rules for inclusion and one of those rules is size. You can leave a stub, but it should be more than a single sentence and a taxobox. I make original contributions as well, but I try to fulfill the minimum requirements for size when I do. There is no reason for you not to recreate the article. Just add some more info when you do. If you had hung the construction template on it the first time, we probably wouldn't be having this discussion. Technically, it's still a speedy but I'll leave it up to you to flesh it out. Regarding Jimbo: I have the utmost respect for him, but he lets this site pretty much run itself. He probably logs on less than anyone else here. Relax and remember WP:BITE. PMDrive1061 22:13, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
    • Chad, I've taken some time to flesh this out a bit based on the station's history page. I'll go back and add the taxobox later. I work in broadcasting (hence the username) and I've written a few station articles under my previous username. I hope I've helped. --PMDrive1061 03:39, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
      • Thanks! That looks great, and it should prevent the article from being deleted again. I appreciate the help. Chadlupkes 03:46, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Dal LaMagna

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Dal LaMagna, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Dal LaMagna. Dchall1 (talk) 05:14, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] AfD nomination of Jack Truman

An editor has nominated Jack Truman, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jack Truman and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 15:29, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Category:Massachusetts elections templates

What's the purpose of Category:Massachusetts elections templates? How many templates are their going to be?—Markles 22:59, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

There are quite a few elections templates scattered around. I'm going through all 50 states to put them in categories under each 'State elections' category. Do you have a different idea on how to organize them? Chadlupkes (talk) 23:01, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
Example: Category:Washington election templates
  • I'm not sure, frankly. Maybe put all the 50 states elections templates into one meta-category, such as, "Category:United States state elections templates." But right now you've got a category (perhaps 50 categories), containing only one article/template. See Wikipedia:Overcategorization.—Markles 23:13, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
Good point. I'm not finding a lot of templates that need to go into categories yet. Right now I'm trying to clean up the state elections categories by separating them out by year for each state. Probably overboard, but I've been seeing more and more articles popping up as more people actually start to pay attention and want to look up or contribute. So I'm trying to put things into a organized pattern. What's the general rule on how many, or how few, articles should be in a category to make it worth keeping? Chadlupkes (talk) 23:18, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
  • For the best discussion of how many/few articles should be in a category to make it worth keeping, see Wikipedia:Overcategorization. I see that there are now an article and a subcategory, Massachusetts presidential primary navigational boxes. That sub-cat is so overboard because it's templates are just unnecessary. But that's a different discussion for a different time. —Markles 23:28, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
Indeed. Also, I'm not creating the templates yet, just trying to categorize what I can find already created. Chadlupkes (talk) 23:29, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Eastgate CDP, Washington

Chad, in 2005, some information about the federal election for President were added to the Eastgate CDP, Washington article under politics. I'm not able to find the election outcomes for the area down to the precincts. Do you happen to have that information? Konrad Kgrr (talk) 07:09, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Looks like it is within the Bellevue precincts. If you can find the precinct numbers, I can point you to the election results pages. Chadlupkes (talk) 16:01, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
